‘IT WAS MY LIFE’ When he came to Averitt, Robert did not know about our special relationship with St. Jude through Averitt Cares for Kids.

“It started back in 1977. I got sick, had my tonsils removed and they found leukemia,” recalls Robert, who has been with our team for about 13 years. “My doctor sent me to St. Jude. I got there on Feb. 14, 1978.” After about three years of treatment at St. Jude, Robert was in remission. LIFELONG CONNECTIONS And because of St. Jude’s commitment to cure all children who are battling cancer, patients like Robert continue to get checkups throughout their lifetimes. “They bring us back there every five years and run studies on you,” Robert explains, “and they compare it back to 20 years ago in order to find a
