PROJECT

THE EBRINGTON HOTEL, DERRY

AIR COOL ENGINEERING GUARANTEES EBRINGTON HOTEL LUXURY WITH WORLD’S FIRST HYBRID HVAC… AIR COOL ENGINEERING’S WATER-BASED AC SOLUTION

S pecialist contractor, Air Cool Engineering, supplied and installed all air conditioning units to the 91-bedroom, four-star deluxe Ebrington Hotel for DMR Mechanical and main contractor McKelvey Construction. Each bedroom is serviced by a Mitsubishi Electric City Multi Hybrid VRF (HVRF) concealed unit with individual controls in each room and overall control located in the reception area. The Mitsubishi Electric HVRF uses water to transfer simultaneous heating and cooling around the 91-bedroom facility. The water-based Mitsubishi Electric HVRF is a game changer for the hospitality sector. For hotel owners looking to reduce energy consumption

and lower the amount of refrigerant within their buildings, Mitsubishi Electric HVRF offers a flexible and reliable option. This is a complete modern solution that provides year-round comfortable and stable air temperature control with no refrigerant in occupied spaces, meaning easy compliance to BS EN378 and removing the need for refrigerant gas leak detection systems. Air Cool Engineering, a Mitsubishi Electric Diamond Quality Partner, had previously installed the hybrid system to a 150-bedroom hotel in GB. Impressed by its efficiency and reliability, the Limavady firm was keen to showcase its features back home. “We went all out to win the Ebrington Hotel contract,” said Martin

Mullan, Managing Director at Air Cool Engineering. “We know how good it is and jumped at the opportunity to install the Mitsubishi Electric HVRF system in a high-profile hotel in the North-West so it could be introduced the local hotel trade.” Hybrid VRF is quick, easy and flexible to design and install using the same control and network as VRF systems. However, the unique setting within the Listed buildings at Ebrington – which included the iconic Clock Tower – did provide some challenges. Located on the site of a former naval base that opened in 1841, Ebrington was known as HMS Sea Eagle during WWII, and was an important part of the North Atlantic

“The water-based HVRF is a game changer for the hospitality sector.”
