“I DIDN’T CARE WHAT HAPPENED TO ME. I JUST NEEDED TO NUMB THE PAIN.”

-KIYA HUGHES, COORDINATOR AT LGBTQ HOME FOR HOPE

LGBTQ CLIENT’S ROAD TO RECOVERY LEADS HER BACK HOME

Kiya Hughes nished a 90-day recovery program and wasn’t feeling ready to go home yet. She was afraid to ruin her recovery by falling back into the same routine that had brought her to use in the rst place. She had been in and out of ten different treatment centers for a PCP addiction. Her addiction began after ending a seven-year, highly codependent relationship. She consoled her broken heart with getting high. “When I got high, all my problems went away. It would send me to another dimension,” she says. “I didn’t care what happened to me. I just needed to numb the pain.”
