The firm Arnold & Porter is a US-headquartered firm with a deserved reputation for its quality of service and expertise in handling the most complex legal and business problems, which require innovative and practical solutions. Types of work Our London lawyers advise on a full range of regulatory, transactional and litigation matters, with a particular focus on intellectual property transactions, pharmaceuticals and medical device regulation and litigation, telecommunications, media and technology, employment, competition and trade regulation, international arbitration, UK enforcement and dispute resolution, corporate and finance, product liability and commercial litigation. Providing our clients with an excellent service is our number one priority, and our lawyers need to be commercially minded, approachable and able to work with our clients as part of a team on complex and often high-profile legal issues. Who should apply We are looking for talented law and non-law graduates from all backgrounds and cultures who share our commitment to excellence, and who want to be part of the continued growth of our London office and become our next generation of partners and lawyers. Candidates applying to Arnold & Porter need to demonstrate a consistently high academic background. We expect candidates to have at least a 2.1 degree, and look for well-rounded individuals who can demonstrate their participation in a range of extra-curricular activities and achievements. Training programme Trainees will have the opportunity to spend six months working within four of our practice groups: life sciences and healthcare regulatory, intellectual property, corporate, competition, international arbitration and white collar crime. Arnold & Porter encourages individuals to work across specialisms, so trainees may find that while working in one practice group, they undertake work in a variety of different areas, and for a variety of partners and fee-earners throughout the firm. Trainees will be expected to work on several matters at once and to assume responsibility at an early stage. We emphasise teamwork and trainees will be exposed to working for a variety of partners and fee earners throughout the office and the firm. There are also opportunities for client secondments. We encourage trainees to take part in our pro bono programme and devote 15% of their time to it, reflecting the firm’s strong commitment to pro bono, helping young lawyers to develop their client management skills from an early stage.
