An Ambitious Set of Strategic Objectives

Our Top Priority is Teamwork Never-changing Values

Those of us in the newly created Office of the CEO see the change in leadership at Cook & Boardman as an opportunity to take a fresh look at our company performance. While we are pleased that our revenues are on pace for a record year, we still have an ambitious set of strategic objectives before us that require additional effort on all of our parts, especially when it comes to combining our diverse lines of products to cross-SERVE our customers. Success in selling comprehensive solutions across branches will take the kind of teamwork for which our company is well known, with people working across product specialties, geographies, areas of expertise, and divisional organizations. Fortunately, we have an employee-centric culture that encourages working together at every level of the company. From small retrofits to large national accounts, central purchasing to credit, restocking to risk management – everything we do is driven by teamwork. When we live by our core values and SERVE, we Serve our associates, customers, and communities. We Educate and Elevate our associates through training and development programs. And we show Respect for all while working towards a shared Vision that leverages our Expertise to make C&B the best it can be!

These values never change, and we regard them as a core strength of Cook & Boardman. We know the only way we all succeed is when we each succeed, which is why we continue to focus on your growth and professional development. You are what makes our company a great place to work, and we will never lose sight of that. We’ll keep you updated as we review the strategic priorities for our team and how we’re performing against them. We have certainly grown bigger over the past several years, and we will continue to focus on growth; however, let’s also seize every opportunity to be better than we have been before. In every change, there is challenge and opportunity. When we continue to work together as a team to meet those challenges, we can achieve amazing things! Expanding Marketing Services NEW - Social Media Support!

Circle of Excellence We made some exciting changes to the Circle of Excellence program for 2023. The number of salespeople who can qualify for the program has been increased from 15 to 20, and the Senior Leadership Picks have increased to 15 - up from 10 last year! We’re also excited to announce that the next Circle of Excellence reward trip will be to the beautiful Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman in May 2024! Get ready to swim with the stingrays! Sales Effectiveness & Bid Win Rate Improvement Improving our bid win rate continues to be a key initiative this year. As the volume of projects bid increases, incremental improvements in win rate generates more business with little additional work. Small tweaks in pre- and post-bid processes can pay large dividends: • Identify all GCs bidding projects and respond to as many as possible (excluding credit risks, etc.) • Follow-up on all bids promptly • If winning GC wasn’t bid, contact that GC and ask to provide a submittal • If project is lost, find out why – and document the specific reason in CookBook. This information will be valuable in understanding trends and fine-tuning future submittals Social Media Social media services are now available to all company divisions through Corporate Marketing: • Design & development of divisional LinkedIn profiles • Training on social media best practices to gain followers and increase engagement • Program management, scheduling & content posting through the corporate social platform

Active social media profiles are an excellent way to increase your brand’s awareness and promote your services and solutions. The twelve C&B divisions below currently take advantage of these corporate services, and all other locations are encouraged to follow them, and contact us if you are interested in becoming active on social media.

Website Enhancements The Marketing and ECommerce teams combined forces recently to create divisional websites for all locations who didn’t have stand-alone sites and also updated some of the existing sites that needed refreshing. All of the new sites use design templates to give them a Cook & Boardman family connection, while focusing on your local markets, services and capabilities. We’ll continue to work with each division to add additional content to showcase your business, initially focusing on completed projects and unique products and services offered at your location.

Now that our new CFO has been selected and starting soon, I’m asking everyone to fill out this quick survey so all the accounting functions can be captured. It should take you only a few minutes. HYPERLINKS

• I hover my mouse over a hyperlink that’s displayed in the email message, but the link-to address is for a different website. (This is a big red flag). • I received an email that only has long hyperlinks with no further information, and the rest of the email is completely blank. • I received an email with a hyperlink that is a misspelling of a known website. Cross-SERVE Types Making the Most Out of Your Opportunities

There are three basic types of Cross-SERVE opportunities: a “referral-based” lead, a “collaborative co-sell” and strategic “greenfield” opportunity development. A “referral-based” X-S lead exists when a Division 8 or Division 28 representative shares an immediate or upcoming business opportunity with an associate from their D8 or D28 group to take independent follow-up action on. In these cases, the lead generator does not necessarily take an active part in the selling process of their partner company to the customer. A “collaborative co-sell” X-S exists when the lead generator and the lead recipient collaborate closely with one another and with the customer to develop the most valuable solutions options, including well- coordinated system design and analysis of various procurement strategies. A “strategic/greenfield” X-S opportunity is one which often requires top-down organizational influence and support by various elements of a customer/partner, including extensive planning and coordination between and across the businesses, typically well in advance of a project bid and award. Though each type of X-S opportunity is equally as important as the other along our transformational journey, beyond the team collaboration itself, it is imperative that we properly capture, link and track our Cross-SERVE opportunities between the businesses. For this reason, tools exist today

between the branches’ opportunity capture systems to effectively link “Parent” X-S opportunities (lead generator) to “Child” X-S opportunities (lead recipient). Our transformational GOLD is represented first by the enhanced customer experience resulting from Cross-SERVE – often reflected in repeat business opportunities - and no less importantly, by the incremental “Child” value of a Cross-SERVE project in terms of additional revenue and incremental gross margin gained (which otherwise would not have occurred). Proper capture and tracking documentation of our Cross-SERVE efforts are therefore everyone’s responsibility. Though we’ve made great strides in this respect over the past year, we still have a long way to go. You’ve heard the term: “If it’s not in CookBook, it didn’t happen!” As it relates to our collective Cross-SERVE efforts, never a truer statement has been made… Thank you all for your efforts so far this year, and we wish you all continued success as we roll headlong into the second half of 2023!

In November of 2021, a Clark Construction associate reached out to Joel Linnell with Precision Doors, requesting he write hardware specifications for the sixty-year-old CFG Bank Arena’s upcoming renovation. It would be transformed into a “new multipurpose, state of the art venue, serving as an anchor for downtown’s west side” needing many replacement openings matching what was already in the Arena. Joel, Regional Sales Manager, coordinated with ASSA ABLOY for products and pricing and then with Project Estimator, Joe Fazio, for proposal submission. Maryland and Delaware District Manager, Larry Griffin, attended the “Project Previews and Networking for Local Clark Projects” event held by Clark on March 16th, 2022, further expanding project knowledge and the working-relationship with Clark executives. On bid day, just two weeks later, and after various meetings back and forth to vet out material needs and costs, Precision Doors submitted their first budget proposal for $800,000 to complete the project. On June 7th, 2022, a Clark project executive notified Joel of the good news. “Congratulations on the award and welcome to the Baltimore Arena team!” The contract’s value rounded out at $922, 548. From then on, the (seemingly) impossible task began: complete shop drawings, vet out all existing project conditions, order materials and place them onsite, and complete - by December. This 6-month timeline didn’t faze Precision employees as Project Manager, Michael Lunn, led the project, knowing the next scheduled sporting event was slated for February of 2023! CFG Bank Arena Baltimore, Maryland

Erich Hyneck and his central detailing team completed shop drawings and work was underway. The team completed the project on time in December. A few months after completion, the project executive from Clark raved, “I can’t thank the Precision team enough for the work performed on this project - one of the most difficult doors, frames, and hardware packages I’ve ever seen - from procurement through delivery/installation - given the design time constraints and state of the existing doors. There were many instances throughout the project where Mike Lunn and the Precision Team went above and beyond, and it’s fair to say that our door completion % upon substantial completion in February would not have been anywhere near what it was, if we had gone with any company besides Precision Doors to supply the doors, frames, and hardware on this project!” Fifteen members of the Precision team were invited to a private show and celebration for the very first concert event featuring Earth, Wind & Fire on April 6th, 2023, at the Arena. Since then, Clark has awarded the Precision team with another $2.5 million project called the UMMC Stoler Center for Advanced Medicine, stemming from the service Precision provided Clark in 2022. The teams look forward to strengthening their portfolios together in the coming years! Joel Linnell Regional Sales Manager, Precision Doors & Hardware Amber Hagan Copy-writer, Corporate

Branches of the Quarter! Congratulations

First Quarter First Quarter

BlueViolet Networks (Fountain Valley, CA)

“Our branch kicked off 2023 with a goal of not only hitting our budget, but specifically wanting to be ‘Branch of the Year!’ This has been a mantra we affirm to each other as we track our standing each month. I think it’s important that everyone on our team know what we are working towards with shared goals - both short and long term. BlueViolet trended to double the revenue YoY with almost the same headcount as the previous year, making it clear each member of the team has worked exponentially harder, building the firm foundation required to support our growth! Installation Manager, Jaime Briceno, and Business Development Manager, Mia Ladner, have made significant contributions we are all thankful for, and I feel a sense of pride as we all see the result of everyone’s hard work in being named CBG’s Branch of the Quarter for Q1.”

Referral Bonus & Veteran Sign-On Bonus Programs

We’re a great place to work, so why not encourage others that you know to join us? Remember, we have a referral bonus program as well as a veteran sign-on bonus program! Currently, employees of the company are immediately eligible to refer full-time candidates, regardless of position who, if hired, will result in a $500 referral bonus (less applicable taxes). Also, if the referred candidate is a veteran, the referring employee will receive an additional $250 bonus (less applicable taxes) at the time of hire. Additionally, veterans hired are eligible to receive a $1,000 sign-on bonus with the company. The Cook & Boardman Group values our veteran associates and their contributions to our Nation and our business. We are excited to provide additional hiring opportunities and incentives to more veterans in our communities.

2. Managers and supervisors to whom a candidate will report are excluded from receiving any referral bonuses. 3. Once a referral is hired, the employee designated will receive $250 of the referral bonus (plus $250 if the candidate is a veteran). Once the referral completes six (6) months of service, the employee designated will receive the remaining $250. 4. In the event that the same candidate is referred by more than one employee, the date of the earliest referral will designate the employee who will receive the bonus. If you have a candidate in mind for referral, instruct them to list you as their referral source when they complete their application via jobs.jobvite.com/cookandboardman.

All other program rules remain the same, as outlined below: 1. Referral bonuses are not paid for: 1) relatives of employees; 2) candidates previously employed by the company or its subsidiaries; 3) part-time employees who are hired to work less than 30 hours per week; or 4) temporary or contract employees actively engaged with the company who are converting to full-time employment.

September’s Critical Message National Suicide Prevention Month

In recent years, society has become more open to discussing the topic of suicide, and more than 90% of American’s surveyed believe suicide can be prevented. According to the CDC, suicidal thoughts can plague anyone regardless of age, gender, or social status, but in 2021 suicide was the SECOND leading cause of death for people aged 10-14 and 20-34. While commonly linked with depression, there is no definitive marker for suicidal tendencies. There are cases of people who suffer from depression and/or suicidal thoughts who cover them up quite well as we may remember was the case with comedian Robin Williams, who took his own life in 2014. The CDC has several programs that have been implemented for young people, veterans, middle-aged adults, sexual minorities, and those in tribal communities. Please visit this link to learn more about these programs: https://www.cdc.gov/suicide/ facts/disparities-in-suicide.html. How can Cook & Boardman Help You and Your Family? All associates and their household family members have access to a confidential, complimentary Employee Assistance Program (EAP) through MYgroup (administered by McLaughlin Young). Our EAP is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Employees and their household family members are eligible for up to eight free, in-person counseling sessions, per issue, per year.

Simply call (800) 633-3353 to speak with a licensed clinician to evaluate your situation, and get the most appropriate ongoing support for you. For employees on our Medical plan, we offer MDLive – a free counselor available virtually – through Cigna at no cost – regardless of the medical plan you have chosen. (You do not need to choose the EAP option for this.) Login to your account at www.MyCigna.com and

choose “Speak to a Doctor.” You will then choose “Counseling” to be connected with licensed therapists & psychiatrists via appointment. One other resource: Call or Text 988 for the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline if you are experiencing mental health-related distress or are worried about a loved one who may need crisis support.

The Circle of Excellence program was launched in 2022 to recognize and reward the company’s top performing sales representatives – the best of the best as measured by their gross margin dollar contributions over the course of the year. When the final numbers were run in January of this year, the Top 15 Sales Reps were inducted into the 2022 Circle of Excellence. This group was invited to the 2022 Leadership Conference, where they were presented trophies at a special awards presentation during the conference. Recognizing that non-sales associates contributed tremendously to the success of the company as well, a second classification of Circle of Excellence recipients were picked based on their contributions and recommendations from their managers. These 10 Selections were also announced in January and were invited to an awards presentation and dinner, hosted by the Senior Leadership Team, at the Cook & Boardman headquarters in Winston- Salem where they received their trophies. All members of the Circle of Excellence received cash awards and were invited (with a guest) to attend an exclusive trip to the beautiful Ritz-Carlton Aruba in April of this year. The branch managers (plus guests) of the Top 5 Sales Reps were also invited to participate in the trip.

Arriving on a Thursday afternoon, our travelers signed in at the Circle of Excellence registration desk and received a welcome gift, then had the rest of the afternoon free until a poolside reception and dinner that evening. Friday morning saw our group participating in various excursions of their choice around the island of Aruba, including horseback riding, kayaking, riding UTVs in the desert, experiencing the hotel’s great spa or relaxing on the beach. Dinner was held on the beach that evening to the sound of a steel drum band. Saturday’s activities included a group sail and snorkel cruise on a catamaran to a sunken ship that was just offshore. The water in Aruba was a beautiful turquoise, and the visibility was amazing for this excursion. The evening concluded with dinner around a garden pool at an authentic Aruban restaurant that is located in a 100-year-old house. Surveys taken after the trip concluded gave the entire experience a resounding 5-Star rating, and it was our pleasure – and honor, to host this outstanding group of employees and their guests at the 1st annual Circle of Excellence rewards and recognition trip!

2023 Circle of Excellence

Building on the success of the inaugural program, some key changes were made to the 2023 Circle of Excellence program. The number of winners has been expanded to include more sales reps and a larger number of Senior Leadership Selections: • The Top Sales Reps category will now include 20 winners, up from 15 last year • Senior Leadership Selections will include 15 winners selected from associates in support roles across the company, up from 10 last year. Keeping with the tropical theme - and based on suggestions received in the post trip survey, we’re thrilled to announce that the destination for next year’s Circle of Excellence trip is to the Ritz- Carlton on the beautiful Grand Cayman Island! The dates for this trip are May 16 – 19, 2024. We hope to see you there!

World-Class Training A Roadmap to Collective Success

Our dedicated training team has been hard at work, creating a fresh range of learning opportunities to accelerate the growth of our associates and propel them towards industry excellence. In April, our training team gathered for a strategic summit at the Cook & Boardman Charlotte branch. This week-long event allowed us to strengthen intra-organizational relationships, review our training blueprint for 2023, and brainstorm new offerings for 2024. We also gained insights into SIS cross-SERVE success from industry expert, Dave Sweeney. In June, we successfully concluded our inaugural “TriplePlay” 2023 Summit, which brought together Operations, Training, and Purchasing under one platform. I was truly inspired by the immense talent

within our team, as they collaborated, exchanged ideas, engaged in thought-provoking discussions, and outlined our roadmap to collective success. In August, we are set to embark on a groundbreaking journey with a specially designed boot camp. This innovative program is tailored specifically for our Sales Associates and those involved in jobsite surveys. Keeping pace with the ever-changing industry landscape and rapid technological advancements, we are also organizing a beginner-level training course in the increasingly important domain of access control. This initiative is being undertaken in partnership with a distinguished vendor at our Corporate Training Center. Additionally, we announce the upcoming launch of our “Importing Macros” Training Class.

Josh Land was promoted to the key role of Manager of Corporate Training, and we brought on a Leadership Facilitator, Lauren Cody. “My most memorable job would have to be working at a Supreme Court judge’s office. This job presented a unique set of problems, due to it being built in the late 1700s. Since I am on the smaller size, I was sent into the crawlspace in a Tyvek suit (see photo!) to pull camera and intercom cables through the building. While crawling, I came across quite a few snake skins and managed to get myself stuck. Without the help of my co-worker pulling my legs to get me out, I may have had a bigger problem.”

Risk Management

Pre-Qualification Statements A Cornerstone of Risk Management

You may be aware CBG’s Risk Department has four primary areas of responsibility: Pre-qualifications, Contracts, Insurance/Bonds, and Compliance. Today, we’ll take a quick dive into the first point of contact with any customer (and their own risk evaluation): Pre-qualifications, where we present ourselves to customers in an effort to prove hiring CBG for the work is the least risky option in an inherently risky business. Before CBG, or any division is awarded work, and often even before being invited to bid, our customers routinely “invite” us to pre-qualify - to demonstrate we’ll be able to perform (and pay for) our part in a given project. A range of factors are considered, from financial strength and employee count, to recently completed projects and current backlog. The more sophisticated the customer, the more detailed the request. What’s interesting and important to note, is that different customers look for different considerations and they’re often at odds; Whiting Turner wants a “corporate view,” while a more local GC only wants branch specifics for the branch they hope to hire. WT likes to see 2000+ employees, while a local customer might avoid us for that reason. It’s not just employee count... the same considerations/contradictions exist for other areas as well, including backlog, work experience/ type, and more. Pre-qualification is not a cut and paste process. It requires knowledge of not only our industry and our work, but our branches – our people – and how to help them put their best face forward. It’s worth mentioning that for our customers, the pre-qualification of subcontractors is a cornerstone of their risk management. Along with the contract language and internal loss control, it evaluates and/ or controls the risk inherent in every project. As mentioned above, the data we provide tells them if we can afford to pay for product and work before getting paid ourselves. It shows if we are too busy (backlog too big), or not busy enough (speaks to ability and financial strength), etc. Unless we can satisfy their various and varying criteria, the

customer is going elsewhere. Only by understanding the context of the questions (work history, branch scope, customer size, project requirements, etc.) are we able to provide the answers they want to hear which allows us to successfully overcome those hurdles and continue to get more work. I’m biased, but I believe our Risk team does that quite well, and our current backlog tells the same story! Several readers will have performed this task in prior lives – completing pre-qualifications – for their branch or former company. Due to the sensitivity of some information often shared in the process, CBG finds it convenient to centralize the process. While it’s not wash, rinse, repeat, the same type of questions appear over and over again, so familiarity with the answers speeds processing and creates consistent results. We appreciate your patience with the timing involved, and your help in staying current on your branch-specific information. When submitting Pre-qualification requests, please remember to share any customer log-in information you’ve been provided to make the process more efficient. Fewer follow ups equals time saved. Finally, in the next few weeks, each branch will get a 6-month survey from Prequalifications@CookandBoardman.com. Please complete it timely and accurately so we can continue our work and update our information. In the next issue, we’ll dive a little deeper into contracts. Thanks for your time! Craig LaMontagne Director of Risk Management

of damaged hardware onsite. The damages stemmed not only from the shooting that took place during the event, but also the manual breeching of the doors post-event by authorities. A Door-Job Well Done In the end, we replaced around sixty doors and frames, and several dozen sets of hardware. I can’t say enough about our wood door, frame, and hardware teams here at MJW. I’ve received various comments and emails from the GC’s superintendents and project managers - and even the VP of the company himself - thanking us for helping out so quickly. It especially meant a lot because that VP was also an elder in the Church. Our team was grateful to help ease this specific burden from the experience the congregation of Covenant Presbyterian Church and School suffered. I am proud, honored, and humbled to be a part of this team!”

Scott Parker and MJW Lend a Hand in Nashville, TN after Tragic School Shooting in March

Contributed by Scott Parker

SERVE award recipient, Scott Parker, shares his experience SERVE-ing Covenant Presbyterian Church and School, after the tragic shooting in Nashville on March 27th. Shooting Event Aftermath “In the early morning of Tuesday, March 28th, I received a call the Church would be in need of a few replacement/temporary doors as soon as possible, in order to have church services open that weekend. I paused everything I was working on at the time and jumped into conversations with the GC’s Superintendent and our wood door-shop team, then made a quick site visit to better understand what was needed. Danny Pitts and I quickly realized ‘a few temporary doors was not a few - but a few dozen! Sadly, there were bullet-ridden doors and frames, along with a good amount
