September’s Critical Message National Suicide Prevention Month
In recent years, society has become more open to discussing the topic of suicide, and more than 90% of American’s surveyed believe suicide can be prevented. According to the CDC, suicidal thoughts can plague anyone regardless of age, gender, or social status, but in 2021 suicide was the SECOND leading cause of death for people aged 10-14 and 20-34. While commonly linked with depression, there is no definitive marker for suicidal tendencies. There are cases of people who suffer from depression and/or suicidal thoughts who cover them up quite well as we may remember was the case with comedian Robin Williams, who took his own life in 2014. The CDC has several programs that have been implemented for young people, veterans, middle-aged adults, sexual minorities, and those in tribal communities. Please visit this link to learn more about these programs: https://www.cdc.gov/suicide/ facts/disparities-in-suicide.html. How can Cook & Boardman Help You and Your Family?
