Since the development of the Men’s National Team program in 2006, 29 select team members have joined USA national teams that have competed at the Olympic Games or FIBA World Cup. SUE BIRD NAMED GLOBAL AMBASSADOR American legend Sue Bird was named the Global Ambassador for the 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup, set for Berlin in Sept. 2026. Bird is the only player to have won the Women’s World Cup four times (2018, 2014, 2010, 2002). Bird also has five Olympic titles and was the flag bearer for her country at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. HOW TO WATCH For fans in the United States, ESPN+ and Courtside 1891.com will carry all 86 games of the competition. PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT Fourteen athletes, known as the USA Select Team, trained with the USA Basketball Men’s National Team at the USA Men’s National Team Training Camp from Aug 3-6 in Las Vegas. The USA Select Team featured a roster of 11 current NBA players, along with three veteran players with NBA, NBA G League, international and USA Basketball experience. The head coach was Jamahl Mosley (Orlando Magic) , who was assisted by Jim Boylen (Indiana Pacers) and Matt Painter (Purdue University). RECAPPING THE USA BASKETBALL SHOWCASE The USA opened its summer campaign with five straight exhibition games heading into the 2023 FIBA Men’s World Cup. With an undefeated 5-0 record during the USA Basketball Showcase, the U.S. Men’s National Team is now 64-4 in exhibition games prior to major international competitions (Olympic Games, World Cups/Championships, Goodwill Games and Olympic Qualification Tournaments).
