Structure The University of Portsmouth’s HND Business qualification has been designed and updated by the Business School and is in line with the QCF and relevant FHEQ benchmarks. On this course you will study:
Year One: – Marketing – Business Finance
Overview This HND programme in Business is designed to provide the latest knowledge and skills for a changing business environment. As a student you’ll work closely with highly qualified teachers who have both academic and industry-based backgrounds in business. You will study a number of units, as indicated in the course structure, that are each worth 15 credits. One of these is a substantial business-related research project, which will develop the skills and analytical tools you will need for a final year dissertation on an Honours Degree. Why Choose This Course? The HND in Business is a great option for those who want to study at Level 4 but don’t want to go to a traditional university. Class sizes are smaller (around 15) and you really get to know your lecturers (and they get to know you). The subjects covered on this course are the same as you would study at university. The big difference…you pay £6,165 per year! In addition to this, you are a University of Portsmouth student and will have access to the library, sports facilities and clubs that make Higher Education study so great. And finally, you can stay in halls if you wish.
– Organisational Theory – Business Environment – Business Law – Purchasing – Human Resources Management – Applied Marketing
Year Two: – Business Strategy – Data Management – Research Project
In addition to the core units, you will study the following: – Working with and leading people – Events Management – Human Resource Development – Small Business Enterprise – Business Psychology Studying at Level 4 and 5 requires students to attend all lectures and commit themselves to additional hours allocated each week outside of college for research and writing reports. You will also develop team working skills over the course, in addition to individual learning requirements. The University of Portsmouth Academic Skills Unit is available for support and advice to all HND Business students and should be used to help complement the learning undertaken at the College.
