Ontario’s Move Over Law imposes fines ranging from $400 to $2000 for violations, depending on circumstances, along with three demerit points on a driver’s licence upon conviction. – Gregg Chamberlain This year’s $5,503,372 federal gas tax al- location for Glengarry-Prescott-Russell is divided up between the ninemunicipalities in the riding and the UCPR. The counties will receive $2,595,854; Russell Township, $463,557; Champlain Township, $260,647; Clarence-Rockland, $704,898; Casselman, $110,242; East Hawkesbury Township, $101,395; Hawkesbury, $320,784; Alfred- Plantagenet Township, $279,588; North Glengarry Township, $311,663; and The Nation Municipality, $354,744. that the money goes towards local infras- tructure needs, including upgrading aging roads and bridges. “We will continue to build 21st-Century infrastructure that meets our communities’ future needs,” said Drouin. “It certainly is to our benefit,” said Gary Barton, warden for the United Counties of Prescott-Russell (UCPR), to have this stable and regular funding.”
Budget plans for next year will be a bit easier now for municipal councils in the Glengarry-Prescott-Russell riding. The federal gas tax allocation for GPR for next year will bemore than $5.5million in total. Francis Drouin, Liberal MP for Glengarry- Prescott-Russell, announced, on August 31, the new indexed figure for his riding from the federal gas tax fund. Le sergent Marc Tessier de la Sûreté du Québec a signalé auxmédias que l’homme, dont le nomn’a pas été annoncé, a pu rega- gner la rive et demander de l’aide. La police et les pompiers de la région ont lancé la recherche, à la fois sur le terrain et en utilisant un hélicoptère de la police. Le corps de Mme Gagnon a été retrouvé plusieurs heures plus tard, à environ 100 mètres en aval de l’endroit où le kayak avait chaviré. Le sergent Tessier a déclaré que l’on ne soupçonne aucun acte criminel en rapport avec le décès de Mme Gagnon.

Carole Gagnon, 56 ans, de L’Orignal, est décédée lors d’un week-end en kayak dans le parc provincial Mont-Tremblant au Québec. Mme Gagnon, ancienne résidente de Buckingham, dans la partie est de Gatineau, pagayait accompagné d’un homme dans leur kayak le long de la rivière du Diable, le samedi après-midi 26 août. Vers 14 h 30, le kayak chavirait et Mme Gagnon disparaissait sous la surface de la rivière.
