Occupational Therapy (OT) For all levels of equipment through to major adaptations, a referral for assessment can be made to the Occupational Therapy teams in both West and North Northamptonshire. An occupational therapist will then come out to speak with or assess the property and person requiring support and make recommendations for equipment or adaptations.

Care and Repair have been serving the needs of the people of Northamptonshire for more than 30 years, working with Councils, other Charities, Occupational Therapists and Care Services, providing services, equipment and adaptations keeping those amongst us who find themselves in need whether by illness, accident, age, or just bad luck to continue to live in their own homes. They are on the approved contractors list for minor adaptations and works funded through the Disabled Facilities Grant scheme plus operate several schemes through major benefactors keeping our services affordable and, in some cases, absolutely free! Assistive Technology Service offers a wide range of technologies to help you remain independent and safe living in the place of your choice. The technology can enable you to live your best life, by linking you back to your community and networks.

Home Safety Checks You may be eligible for a Home Safety Visit. Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue service provide advice in order to keep your home safe. This includes advice for people who are worried about hoarding or cluttered homes. It is also advised that people think and plan about how you would escape your home if a fire was to occur.

These can include the following:-

• Remote health monitoring devices • In-house call buttons / Lifelines • Equipment for isolation • Reminder devices

• Bed and chair sensors • Monitoring systems • Epilepsy sensors • GPS devices • Hearing products • Key safes

You are four times more likely to die in a fire if you don’t have a smoke alarm that works. The easiest way to protect your home and family from fire is with working smoke alarms.

Here you can use a “Home Fire Safety Self Checker” and request a home safety visit. You can also refer a friend or relative so if you know or care for someone who is over the age of 60 or who has a physical or mental health need that affects their ability to react or escape in a fire you can encourage them to contact us or refer them (with their permission). Priorities for this service are given to those who are most at risk. Please remember to check the identity of any visitors to your home. Care & Repair services Care and Repair are a ‘Not for Profit’ company managed by an Independent Management Committee, who provide a range of practical services designed to support older, disabled and vulnerable people and enable them to continue to live safe, warm and secure within their own homes.
