Misbehavin’ Wire Fox Terriers W hat immense kindness to invite me to this celebration of Fox Terriers through the Fox One newsletter ! I'm Marie-Christine Durocher, and it's with humble gratitude that I share a glimpse of my passion from Quebec, a French-speaking province in Canada. As Secretary of the Wire Fox Terrier Club of Canada and a breeder under the kennel name "Misbehavin’," I've been fortunate to see my love for these dogs grow. My kennel name is actually an affectionate nod to a Fats Waller jazz standard, "Ain't Misbehavin’" – a perfect play on words that reminds me of the joy and sometimes the playful mischief of my terriers ! The Fox Terrier marked a significant transition in my canine journey. After two decades dedicated to German Shorthaired Pointers, I chose a decade ago to shift towards a more compact, yet equally energetic breed. My first true immersion came in 2005 when I had the opportunity to welcome and rehabilitate Fox Terriers seized from a neglectful situation. This experience was incredibly formative, familiarizing me with the resilient temperament and captivating charm of these small dogs, as well as with hand-stripping, a technique I've been striving to perfect ever since. My commitment to the breed solidified with my membership in the Wire Fox Terrier Club of Canada, followed by my election as Secretary. It's an honor to fully dedicate myself to this breed that I'm so passionate about. I actively participate in all Club initiatives, including managing communications and engaging as an exhibitor. I am deeply indebted to Caroline Mouris (Br’er Fox), who entrusted me with my first female and has been an invaluable mentor from the very beginning. Stella by Starlight, daughter of Travella Striking Steel and Br’er Fox Cordelia, is my foundation bitch, and it's thanks to her that I've experienced my greatest successes. Among other things, she gave me Misbehavin’ Witchcraft, who brilliantly represented the kennel by earning Reserve in Open Female at Crufts this year. Every success is the result of a lot of hard work, but above all, invaluable support.
