My presence shall go with thee! Though heavy be thy load, Though dark may be the midnight, Though rough may be the road, In sunshine and in shadow Commit thine all to Me— My presence shall go with thee, And I will care for thee!

JULY 29 He Would Not Give Up

if we wait on Him, He will, in every such experience, lift us by His own grace to a higher level of acquaintance with Himself. W right . JULY 27 Joy in the Lord “ I will be glad in the Lord” (Psa. 104: 34). Is your j oy in the Lord ? Are you mak ing Jesus Christ watchfully and with care the meditation of your soul, and the secret of your peace, and the power for your ac tion, and the rest for your weariness, and the hope o f your future? The more you are occupied with Him to the exclu sion even of thoughts and analyses about your confidence and faith and hope in Him, the more equable, will be that expe rience. “Then were the disciples glad, when they saw the Lord.”— H andley G. M oule . JULY 28 Obedient in All Things “ To obey is better than sacrifice" (1 Sam. 15:22). How few Christian people seem to real ize that obedience in trifles, in all things, to the will and law of Jesus, is the indis pensable condition o f life and joy and power! The obedient soul is the holy soul, penetrated and filled by the presence of God, and all' aglow with light and love. Dear reader, resolve from this moment to live up to the margin of your light. Let this be your motto: “All that the Lord hath said will we do, and be obedient.” Is rael said this and failed utterly and shame fully; do you say it by the power of the Holy Spirit, and He shall make it glo riously possible.—F. B. M eyer .

" . . . and found me" (2 Tim. 1 :17). Two Christian workers were talking to gether. “ By the way,” said one, “were you able to contact that young artist I wrote about?” “No, I wasn’t. I telephoned to him, but he wasn’t in. I gave his name to a few of the boys of our soul-winners club, and one of them will surely look him up.” “But the family feels that you are better fitted than any one else to lead him to Christ.” “Yes, I know. There are so many to see, and it seems that I have been hindered on every hand. But I’m keeping this case in mind. ” Onesiphorus did more than keep Paul’s case in mind. His concern was not for an unsaved acquaintance, but for the great apostle to the Gentiles, to whose temporal necessities Onesiphorus would minister. He "sought” Paul, kept on seeking, and would not rest until he found him. Soul of mine, dost thou know anything about such persistency ?— S elected . JULY 30 Unafraid “My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest” (Ex. 33:14). My presence shall go with thee, Beloved child of M ine! Then why shouldst thou be fearful, Or why shouldst thou repine ? No danger can o ’ertake thee When I am at thy side— My presence shall go with thee, And I will be thy Guide!

—E. M argaret C larkson .

JULY 31 The Real Crisis Hour “ So I prayed to the God o f heaven” (Neh. 2:4). God’s servants and soldiers ought to know that the real place where success is assured and victory made certain is not out on the field of labor or battle, but in the secret place o f communion with God. . . . Esau was vanquished, and his hatred turn ed to love, not when Jacob bowed to the ground before him in the morning light, but when he prevailed with the angel the night before. Asa, Jehoshaphat, and Heze- kiah gained their grand victories over Ju dah's enemies, not when the armies met in the battlefield, but when they prevailed in: prayer with God before the battle began (2 Chron. 14, 19, 20; Isa. 37). —H ubert B rooke . Cease meddling with God’s plans and will. You touch anything o f His and you mar the work. You may move the hands of a clock to suit you, but you do not change the time; you may hurry the un folding of God’s will, but you harm and do not help His work. You can open a rosebud, but you spoil the flower . . . Leave all to Him. “ Not my will, but thine, be done.”— S tephen M erritt .
