LEADERSHIP Board Notes

The focus of the Christ’s College Board of Governors in 2019 continued to be on strategy, engaging with staff to create a shared vision of the future whereby College graduates have a developed social conscience as they contribute to society. Likewise, financial freedom has also been a strong imperative for 2019, to encourage accountability and targets around a balanced budget. As part of its strategic plan, College looks forward to moving ahead with its plans to establish new sports facilities at the far end of Upper. It was also a year of considerable change, with the departure in December of long-standing board member and, latterly, chair Dr Ian Town. Ian joined the board in August 2011 and was appointed chair in 2015. His tenure as chair was characterised by firm leadership focused on modernisation and change resulting in a broad skill matrix of board members. Ian’s legacy has been a thriving school community, as well as a record-breaking school roll. We thank Ian for his immense contribution to the life of Christ’s College.

We are fortunate to benefit from the expertise of Old Boy and solicitor Hugh Lindo as our new board chair. For more than five years Hugh has already contributed greatly to the board, as well as the development, finance, investment and audit committees. We welcome Hugh to his new role and look forward to his input, particularly with regard to College’s commercial interests. Peter Davie also departed the board in December, after eight years as the CCOBA representative. He made a significant contribution to College’s strategic plan and was always a ready source of information and guidance on health and safety matters. We welcomed Gillian Simpson as diocesan representative to the board in October 2019. The former Executive Principal of St Margaret’s College, Gillian has extensive experience in New Zealand education within both the independent and integrated sectors. Her insights will be of immense benefit to College.
