vs St Andrew’s College 1st XI – NZ Cup Final StAC 269/9 (Macfarlane 2/20, McClean 2/58) beat College 83 ao by 186 runs We started well, restricting StAC to around four runs an over, which was below par on the fast scoring Mainpower Oval, however, we were unable to remove their opener who scored 140 and the pressure was on our batsmen to respond. Sadly, considering the occasion, we subsided meekly in the face of relentless pressure from a well- disciplined bowling attack. Whereas they seemed to hit gaps, we hit fielders and, in the end, we were well beaten by a better team. vs Ashburton College College 156 ao (Lidstone 44) defeated Ashburton 91 ao (Graham 4/27, McClean 3/20) by 67 runs A low-key match played on a green wicket proved an easy win for College, despite not batting with the intensity or purpose we would have liked. We welcomed Lidstone back from injury and he played well at the top of the order, but batsmen got out playing low percentage shots. In the field, excellent play by Greenslade, who took a tumbling catch, proved the spark that led to seven wickets falling for 25 runs in 10 overs. vs North West Youth Cricket North West 174 (Averill 3/19, Prentice 2/16) defeated College 173 (Graham 62, Beale 44) by 1 run This was not a game for the faint- hearted. We bowled relatively well, but the feeling was North West got a few more runs than they should have. Averill took three wickets and Prentice bowled nicely in the middle of the innings. In reply, College was 132 for two, with 43 runs needed, eight wickets in hand and 14 overs remaining, following a great partnership between Graham and Beale. But poor decision-making coupled with tight bowling led to us falling first to 138 for five, then 167 for seven, then 173 all out, to lose by one run.

vs St Andrew’s College 2nd XI College 232/8 (Lidstone 103, Beale 42) defeated StAC 131 (Harper 3/37, Prentice 3/14) by 101 runs Lidstone really made his mark in this game, with a fine century at the top of the order putting on 146 for the first wicket with Beale. Despite a struggle in the final 10 overs, the total of 232 was always a step too far for StAC. Harper and Prentice bowled well to keep the victory over 100 runs. vs North West Youth Cricket College 292/8 (Lidstone 86, Manson 30) defeated North West 93 (Graham 3/5, McClean 2/10) by 199 runs A repeat of the previous disappointing loss was never on the cards following a second century opening. Lidstone could not make another hundred, but the team all chipped in with runs to set North West a daunting total, our highest of the term. In reply, College opened with McClean’s spin to devastating effect as he took two wickets in the first over. There was no way back for North West and Graham finished up the tail with three wickets in as many overs. It was a great way to end the season.

We had a successful two-day competition, collecting first innings points in each of the five matches, and completing two wins, one loss by two wickets, one draw and one match cancelled after being in a dominant position at the end of the first day. Our batting always got off to a positive start with the free flowing attitude of Tyus Dimbleby. He was always reliable to make a quick-fire 30 and allow our middle order to take their time in building an innings. During the season Sam Hadley made 79 and Josh Wood 50 not out against North West Youth Cricket, with Josh also scoring 58 against Riccarton High School and 49 against St Bede’s College. On a slow outfield, Sam Dickie batted 60 overs for 43 not out against Selwyn, before showing his class with 94 not out against St Andrew’s College. Will Patchett took until the final game to show his consistency, with 48 and 45 in the two innings against St Bede’s, and Ben Abbot, after a series of 20s and 30s, put a great innings together to reach 95 against Riccarton High. Our bowling showed great variation in the number of players who each played a part in gaining the wickets we needed. Only Will gained a five wicket bag with 5/21 against StAC, however, we had five other bowlers who claimed four wickets in an innings. Sam Dickie took 4/32 against Selwyn, Jack Belcher 4/32 against StAC, Charlie Goodwin 4/6 against Riccarton High and both Monty Hamilton 4/27 and Ben Abbot 4/20 against St Bede’s. TERM 4 One Day 1st XI Bowl, Sec 2 grade In the one-day competition, we played seven matches in the round robin, finishing with three wins. We were in the play-off for 5th or 6th position and finished the season on a high, claiming the win in the final and taking 5th. During these matches, our bowling was something we could always rely on, with effective opening from
