YEAR 10A CRICKET Manager: Carey Prebble Coach: Alistair Collins, Rory Humphrey, Will Jones-Allen Team: Joe Pfahlert (captain), Ollie Jones (vice-captain), Adam Chamberlain, Will Churcher, Christian Higgins, Jim Luisetti, George Mounce, Jackson Thomas, George van Leeuwen, Robbie Ward, Thimeth Wijesinghe, Scott Winefield TERM 1 It was a challenging start to the season for the Year 10A cricket team. Despite a difficult pool, the boys showed the character strength of perseverance in all their games – and finally clinched an elusive win for their last match in the first half of the season. There were some individual highlights, with both Ollie Jones and Jackson Thomas scoring over 50 runs and Adam Chamberlain bowling a hat-trick. The team worked hard during practice to reduce their extras and every player made improvements in their game, which was wonderful to see. Joe Pfahlert and Ollie showed excellent leadership, building a supportive and competitive culture within the team. The spectator support was also greatly appreciated. TERM 4 The team started well, winning their first two games against Christchurch Boys’ High School and St Andrew’s College before going down to St Bede’s College. The boys bounced back from a tough loss and had a convincing win against Sydenham Cricket Club before going into the bye. The last game of the season was once more against CBHS. As they were missing a few key players the team struggled to make runs and, unfortunately, lost. In the last few games there were some outstanding performances from

Gill Kilpatrick Manager The South Island Cricket Festival, Dunedin

YEAR 9A CRICKET Manager: Gill Kilpatrick Coaches: Cameron Howe-Dreyer, Isaac Windley Team: Alex Stead (captain), Nate Ovendale (wicketkeeper), Henry Blackley, Will Bretherton, Nicholas Brown, Wilby Cameron, Bruno Davies, Thomas Douglas, Jonty Inglis, Leo Jelley, Lewis Whiteside Term 1 – won 4, lost 3 Term 1 saw the team off to a flying start with wins against Shirley Boys’ High School, Christchurch Boys’ High School Black, Sydenham and CBHS Blue. One of the highlights of the term would have to be the game against CBHS Black, where the team bowled out the opposition for 72, with Lewis Whiteside taking a seven wicket bag. The other stand out game was against CBHS Blue, with Leo Jelley completing a three for 10 runs. The batting started slowly but surely, until the middle period where we lost quick consecutive wickets. This really tested the character of our tail end. They stood up and brought us over the line for a nail biting win by just one wicket. Term 4 – won 2, lost 2 Term 4 saw the team enjoy wins against SBHS in the two day format and a win against Cashmere High School in the NZCT Cup. The game against SBHS saw superb batting from Nate Ovendale, as he secured a century in both innings. He followed this with another century the next week against Cashmere, taking us to the next round of the NZCT Cup. Well done to all of the boys. They developed hugely as players throughout the year, as well as in terms of their sportsmanship and team spirit.

The 2020 season was capped off by the South Island Cricket Festival in Dunedin. On the first day, we played Nelson College. The team put on one of its best performances with the ball and in the field, bowling Nelson out for 130. This was led by Will Bretherton taking a four wicket bag. We got off to a flying start with the bat, with Jonty Inglis (42) and the rest of the batting order chipping in with 10–15 each, to get us comfortably over the line. On day two, we were asked to bat first. Our top order slumped, which meant at one point we were four for 10. A few partnerships rescued the innings and squeezed 93 all out. We then started strong with the ball and had Marlborough College at four for 30, before some excellent batting saw them win with five wickets in hand. The last match of the tournament was a thrilling game against Otago Boys’ High School. A brilliant batting performance saw us get 185 off 40 overs, with great knocks from Jonty, (76) and Nate Ovendale (42). We started the bowling strongly, with a couple of wickets taken, before getting hit all around the park just before a break. We put our heads together and got OBHS at 160 for 8, and Alex Stead took a four wicket bag. Unfortunately, we couldn’t take the last two wickets needed and they won with two overs to spare. All in all, we had a great tournament and the boys really enjoyed it. Thanks to Dodsy for taking the team and looking after us.
