circuit with sprints out of almost every corner) called for 100 per cent concentration, but all the boys represented College impressively. The next day, the boys were faced with a double dose of hill climbing action: first, the hill climb time trial and then the road races, with a finish at the top of a short, steep climb. The team performed well in the time trial, with Jack and Michael finishing in the
top 10. In the road races, Tim Ward showed great character to continue racing after getting an early puncture. The U17 race was the pinnacle of the weekend. Despite crashing, Fearghus and Michael caught the leading group on the final lap. Michael grabbed the final climb by the scruff of the neck, sprinting to the line to win by a few seconds. It was a fantastic finish to the season. Everybody played a part in the team’s success and the new
cyclists left Blenheim keen to stick with cycling next season. More than that, the experienced boys will be heading into Year 13, which means the 2020 team should be more competitive than ever.
