SCHOOLS PREMIER 1ST XI COMPETITION vs Cashmere High School A solid first performance, which featured debutants Caleb Manson, Charlie Cameron, Jamie Barr and Ben Abbot, and captain Jordy Annand playing his 40th game for the 1st XI. The match started tentatively, but once the team settled they matched and frustrated a more experienced Cashmere side. After absorbing early pressure, College created a chance, but the Cashmere keeper made a good save. Then, near the end of the first half the Cashmere striker cut back inside and shot from the edge of the box. College battled hard in the second half and found good space down the left with Jordy ranging wide. Caleb Manson and Jake Tacon created some good attacking chances and Daniel Metherell just missed from a headed corner. Cashmere went ahead again, before Kynan Salt scored from outside the box to make it 1–2. College was very much in the game, but in the last couple of minutes Cashmere found a gap and capitalised with another good finish. A final 1–3 score, but the young College team showed a lot of grit, effort and productivity. vs Lincoln High School Lincoln started brightly and created early pressure with a couple of shots on goal, but College scrambled well. On their first real attacking raid, Jake Tacon slipped a great ball to Jordy Annand who made sure of the finish. From there College created lots of opportunities, but could not capitalise on any. Ben Abbot just missed connecting with a stunning free kick by Charlie Cameron, Kynan Salt hit the crossbar from 40 yards out with a belter of a strike, and Jordy Annand had a goal disallowed after getting on the end of another good cross by Charlie. The second half got a little messy, with Lincoln doing a good job of breaking up College's attempts to build up play and pressuring College defence. Some more chances fell to College, but lacked the finishing touch. A couple of injuries and yellow cards

tried to chase an equaliser, but the work rate and effort could not be faulted. The 1–2 loss felt like College let one get away. vs Middleton Grange College dominated the early phases of the game and created several early chances, however, an inexplicable miss from a yard out typified the way play was unfolding. Caleb Manson was a constant problem for the Middleton defenders and it was his good work that set up Jordy Annand for College’s first goal. Middleton then scored twice, but luckily, just before halftime, Caleb Manson managed to pinch a loose pass and apply a tidy finish to score his maiden goal for the 1st XI and level the score at 2–2. College played better in the second half. Jake Tacon created some nice build-up before playing in Jordy for his second goal of the match, and Caleb Manson also scored again when Kynan Salt played a sweet ball through the midfield. Sam Averill finished with a good header at the back post off a corner kick to take the game to a final 5–2 score. vs Rangiora High School The 1st XI put in a pretty good shift to clock up their fourth win of the season and keep their place in the top five of the 1st XI Premier competition. College dominated the first half, with outstanding work up front and out wide by Caleb Manson, Jordy Annand and Charlie Cameron creating plenty of chances. Owen Rees, playing in his 40th game for the team, went close, as did Charlie and Kynan Salt, but it took some quick thinking and play from Fin Smith, then Caleb Manson to set up the first goal, with Kynan applying the finishing touch. An own goal off a corner then gave College a 2–0 lead, with Jamie Barr and Sam Averill at the heart of the defence that snuffed out any kind of attack Rangiora tried to build. In the second half College lost a bit of its attacking edge, but again created chances. A goal to Jordy gave College a comfortable buffer and, at the final whistle, a 3–0 win.

made the game interesting, but in the end it was a gritty, hard-working performance from College and a deserved 1–0 win. vs St Bede’s College College started slowly, but soon began to string a few passages of play together and St Bede’s struggled to contain the pace and wide threat of Charlie Cameron and Jordy Annand. Jordy and Caleb Manson had early opportunities, but both strikes were comfortably saved. College scored two goals in the last five minutes of the first half, when Jake Tacon headed in a follow-up after a great run and shot by Caleb Manson, and Sam Averill launched a long ball to Charlie who finished superbly. 2–0 to College at half-time. St Bede’s were first to score in the second half, after catching out College defence and a great finish by the St Bede’s striker. The game then became messy as College scrapped and St Bede’s pushed forward. College looked dangerous on the counter-attack, however, and eventually Charlie found space out wide and delivered a good cross into the box for Jordy to thrash the ball home. College then saw out the match with some good scrambling defence to give them a 3–1 victory. vs Burnside High School College continued their good run of form against one of the league leaders. Both teams showed intent, with Burnside having a slight edge in early encounters. But once College settled down, they matched it with Burnside and disrupted their play much to the frustration of the Burnside midfield. College created a couple of chances and managed to get on the board first when Ben Abbot found himself on the end of a great ball from the back by Sam Averill, from which he put in a good cross for Caleb Manson to head goalward. Burnside managed a save, but Jake Tacon was there to head in the rebound and give College the lead. Burnside equalised just before half-time and then scored again relatively early in the second half. The match got a bit messy as College
