JUNIOR 1ST XI FOOTBALL Manager: William Bell Coach: Ricardo Felitti Team: Rocco Barker, Jonathan Barnes, Matthew Brett, Wilby Cameron, Harry Dufton, Santino Felitti-Duter, Gabriel Gallaway, Andreas Gormack, James Lange, AJ (Anotida) Madondo, Henri Murison, Nate Ovendale, Rheon Salt, Alex Scott, Harry Sharr, Lachie Short, Spencer Smith, Robbie Ward, Lewis Whiteside, Nick Wilson, Scott Winefield, Lucca Wiseman It was a slow start to the season for the Junior 1st XI football team, with a 2–2 draw against St Andrew’s College after leading 2–0 at half-time. We were playing very good football for most of the second half until StAC managed to score their first goal and then, with only 30 seconds to go, scored again. This game set the tone for the season. The most impressive performance this season was a 6–1 win, again against StAC, which gave the team a morale boost and lifted the tempo for the rest of the season. With some amazing performances by Lachie Short, Jono Barnes, Lucca Wiseman and Matthew Brett – the latter opened the scoring with a great shot on goal, followed-up with an outstanding assist from Lucca to Gabriel Gallaway, who also scored

in the lead-up to their next game, the semi-final clash. vs St Thomas of Canterbury College (Semi-final) The season came to an end with the 1st XI going down 0–4 to St Thomas in the semi-final of the premier competition. St Thomas certainly started the stronger of the two teams and pounced to open the scoring early in the game. College worked hard, but struggled to gain any fluency in the first half. Goalkeeper Ben Cornell made some excellent saves and Daniel Metherell was immense on defence, but College could not keep St Thomas out and they had a 3–0 lead at half-time. Although College had a much better second half and began to find a bit more control and territory, St Thomas was able to extend their lead. In the end, St Thomas were just too good and College made too many little mistakes that cost them dearly. Nevertheless, College should feel very proud of their top four finish and the results they achieved this season.

a fine goal. Lachie and Jono gave their best performances, and came extremely close to adding to the tally. The defence was led by James Lange, who started the season playing as a winger but moved into the centre back position due to a shortage of defenders and acquitted himself well. He was accompanied by Harry Dufton in goal, Harry Sharr, Andreas Gormack and Scott Winefield at centre back, as well as Rocco Barker and Wilby Cameron as fullbacks. Our idea was to play from the back, so the defence were crucial to the success of switching and building up play. Spencer Smith was solid in the defensive midfield position and tried to maintain the shape with the help of Lewis Whiteside and AJ Madondo. In transition to attack, the idea was to use the midfielders before going wide, and Nick Wilson, Nate Ovendale and Robbie Ward were key assets in this style of play. Gabriel Gallaway and Alex Scott were our wingers for the majority of games and, with some amazing performances, were involved in most of the goals scored. Henri Murison was our key striker and finished the season as our top goal scorer with a tally of eight goals, finishing almost every opportunity he was given inside the box. Henri was given support from the centre attacking midfield position from players such as Rheon Salt and Santino Felitti-Duter. After an outstanding performance against St Bede’s College in the last regular season match, and with our stand-in goalkeeper Ciaran Huntley as man of the match, the team progressed through to the semi-finals in third place. We met St Bede’s again in the semi-final and, playing away from home, did not play to our full potential, eventually losing 3–0 to finish 4th overall.
