2ND XI HOCKEY Manager: Matt Thatcher Coach: Gus Wakeling

Tom Macfarlane has been a member of the 1st XI hockey team for three years, including three Rankin Cup tournaments and 76 matches. He was a member of the team who won the Rankin Cup in 2017 and were runners-up in 2018. He has been a key member of the defensive structure, always displaying a composed approach. He made several crucial tackles in important games, as well as being a key component of the outletting from the back that set up numerous attacking opportunities. Tom’s overhead passing in general play and drag flicks at penalty corners have been at the highest level and an asset to the team. He was the leading goal scorer in the team this year with 16 goals. Tom was awarded Colours in hockey in 2019. Toby Beale has been a member of the 1st XI hockey team for three years, including three Rankin Cup tournaments and 73 matches. He was a member of the team who won the Rankin Cup in 2017 and were runners-up in 2018. This year, Toby has been a key defender for the team and a key communicator from the back, making several crucial tackles in important games, as well

as being a key component of the outletting from the back that set up numerous attacking opportunities. He was captain of the Canterbury U18 Association team that won the national tournament this year. Toby was awarded Colours in hockey in 2019. George Lamb has been a positive member of the team who always carried out his role calmly and efficiently. As a midfielder he made some key tackles at times and was also a positive link between defense and attack. George’s nature was such that he fitted into the team culture well, contributing to the team both on and off the field. George played 29 games for the 1st XI. Caleb Westbury came to College from the deep south for his final year at school and established himself as a reliable, dependable defender in the team. He was a young man with great values who worked hard throughout the season for the team both on and off the field. Caleb played 25 games for the 1st XI.

The season had a lot of promise because it was such a well-rounded squad – and although the team knew some players would be flowing up into the 1st XI squad from time to time, they also knew they would get good support from the Colts team and other players who would, in turn, come up to play for the 2nd XI. Competing in the Division 1 boys section was always going to be tough, going up against a mixture of 1st XI and other 2nd XI sides. In the end the team played 14 games,
