Nunweek Park or Marist Park. The strikers led from the front, with Lawson Davey continuing to show good speed and determination up front, and newcomers Liam Allen, Fergus Johnston and Andrew Welsh providing good attacking support to round out a strong strike line. The strikers were consistently backed up by the hardworking midfield. Max Falvey, Rajan Stephens, George Pearse and Barnaby Stanton shared the roles of left and right midfield, in addition to time spent in the front line. Newcomer Alex McEwan stepped up to hold the key midfield position of centre half, with the support of Claude Tellick and Bruce Chen as wing halves. The defence was led by Zach Adams in goal, supported by Yusef Elnahas, Christian Higgins and Jordan Astley. Zach directed the College defence with good vision and confidence from the goal, whilst the three field players worked tirelessly to create a strong and solid back line. To finish the season with three wins and two draws was a good success for the team. Alex McEwan was awarded Most Valuable Player for the 2019 season. In his centre half role, Alex was instrumental in maintaining the team’s structure and distributing the ball in a calm and controlled manner. Max Falvey was awarded the Worner Award for

Spirit and Enthusiasm for his positive attitude and strong work ethic during both games and practices. Christian Higgins was awarded Most Improved Player. In his first season playing hockey, Christian showed great strength and leadership in defence, often thwarting opposition breakaways. Thank you to the supportive family and friends on the sidelines. They were always positive and encouraging of the team, particularly on cold and wet Friday nights.

tough when faced with older, faster and more skilful boys. Unfortunately, there was only one close game – a draw with St Andrew’s College. For the remainder the scores often blew out into significant double figures. Highlights from this round include the 1–1 draw with StAC and then scoring the first goal of the game against Shirley Boys’ High School. A number of players showed potential and were crucial contributors in attempting to play with a degree of structure. Harry Campbell could show some pace and intent, Joshua Peckitt and Charles Beale were solid midfielders, while Jed Gimblett was outstanding in defending the numerous attacks. Once Josh Garland was shifted from striker to goalie, he improved immensely and was even promoted to play for the 2nd XI on one occasion. Over the second half of the season we transferred to a Monday schools’ grade looking for closer games. This was not to be, however, as the co- educational schools we now played were the only team from their school and they featured many older boys, which meant the scores were again lopsided. By the end of the season we had scored four goals to 120 plus from opposition teams. The goal scorers were Harry Campbell (3) and Liam Cassidy.
