The boys enjoyed the season, had a faithful support crew, and developed in their knowledge of the game. The scoreboard did not always favour us – with two wins, seven losses and one draw – but the boys made good gains in all the aspects of the season we prioritised. On the pitch, the first 10 minutes of each game proved to be our Achilles heel, leaving us playing catch-up rugby for the majority of the season. In the face of that challenge, the boys displayed an impressive level of grit

lacked confidence, and losing Max Arrandale to injury in the second game of the season did not help. Max returned for the semi-finals, however, and the backline went on to show their true potential. Ollie Shore and Jackson Thomas developed a sound rapport and were arguably the most courageous boys in the grade. Not big by stature, but with huge hearts. Armani Lemalu was a Year 8 student who played for the U15A. Armani has his heart set on coming to College in Year 9. He is a quiet but confident back, and we look forward to seeing him in the U15A team again in 2020. The back three players frequently had to be rotated as a result of injury. It was Ned Botherway who provided the cement by which we could put a strong back together. Ned is big and, with confidence, became very physical. The team co-opted several players from the U14A for the South Island tournament. Leo Jelley, Luc Botherway, Tom Thyne and Oscar Wells-Swann were all magnificent in the games they played. A number of players also helped out from the

U15B, with Louis Hitchings perhaps our best tackler. The team proved to be incredibly resilient young men who never gave up and I encourage them to take these learnings into all areas of their lives. Have fun and high 5s. My heartfelt thanks to everyone who made this season possible: Stephen Dods, the players, our physiotherapist and strength and conditioning coaches, Archibalds, the Beach Cafe and all our sponsors, as well as parents and all our supporters.
