In the Term 1 interschool competition the results of our age grade teams demonstrated how dominant College tennis is. The B1 team finished second in the B Grade Division 1 competition. Whereas in Division 2, the B3 team won the grade, followed by the B5 side who finished second. In the Year 10 competition, the J1 side won the competition with six wins from six matches. Whereas the J4s finished third in Division 2. In the Year 9 competition the Year 9.1 team defeated StAC in the Division 1 final to win the competition, and the 9.2 team finished third in the same division. In the Division 2 competition, the 9.3 team won the grade and the 9.4 team finished third. On an individual basis, our number one player Will Schneideman finished the year just outside the top 1000 juniors in the world. He is certainly one of the top U18 players in the country. Throughout the year he played ten ITF tournaments in New Zealand, the Pacific and Australia.

He has also played men’s senior club premier grade in Christchurch at weekends. It is great to see that he is going to continue his tennis while attending university in the United States. In addition, Nick Schneideman, Jenner Johnson, Nant Prachuabmoh, Nont Prachuabmoh and Tom Downs all played national tournaments throughout the year. While Liam Adams, Nick and Jenner are all playing men’s senior club premier grade in Christchurch. In the Canterbury secondary school championships, Will Schneideman won the senior boys’ title in his final year. While Will and Tom teamed up to win the senior doubles title, defeating Nick and Jenner in the final. Nant and Nont teamed up to win the Canterbury Year 11 doubles title. At the junior tournament, Jasper Johnson and George Brakenridge played their way to the semi-finals. Jasper then teamed up with Rheon

Salt to make the doubles final, and George and Ed Davidson made the semi-finals. In the House competition, Harper House proved too strong in the junior competition, sweeping away Julius House 5–1 in the final. Harper also beat a valiant Flower’s House to take out the senior event. This has been another successful year for College tennis and we are fortunate to have a very strong pool of talented players. I would like to thank Matt Meredith and Hugo Nurse-Strang for their excellent coaching. I would also like to thank the teaching staff who have given such great support throughout the year: Lesley Anderson-McKenna, Melissa Campbell, Susan Harding, Zac Knight, Caroline Marsh, David Newton, Ginny Patterson, Bosco Peters and Samantha Stevenson.
