With the week of excessive heat running up to the July auction I was proposing to abandon my pinstripe auction suit in favour of shorts and a T- shirt. In the event the weather cooled slightly and the bidding public were spared this distraction! During this period, however, I was particularly drawn to one of the smallest lots in our July catalogue, Lot 15, The Riverbank and fishing rights, Bathford Hill,

F F F F F Comprising 0.5 acres of land fronting the River Bybrook near Box, this area just to the east of Bath, is in the most idyllic setting. It was apparent from the number of enquiries and the lively bidding on the night that many others felt the same as me. FOR SALE AT LIVE ONLINE AUCTION : a During the past two years the desire for green spaces and idyllic settings has, understandably, reached a new level and so it was no surprise when we offered a barn complex on the lea of the Mendips in the picturesque village of Loxton. Offered as two separate lots, without planning permission, they sold for £320,000 and £150,000 respectively. However, proximity to the city centre, proximity to the leisure facilities of the docks and the ambiance of Clifton has not lost its charms as a building plot for a new Mews house in Clifton Wood sold for £264,000 – substantially above its guide price. As an auctioneer, it is always difficult to extol the aesthetic virtues of garages but the public have no difficulty in identifying their value. These ubiquitous boxes are not only useful but, often provide longer term development opportunities. From single garages to blocks of them the demand is always there and a selection of them in the Stockwood area just proved my point.
