PARTNERSHIPS
SCEC Saturday Schools Under the auspices of the Southwark Community Education Charity, Dulwich College proudly delivers two Saturday schemes for local state primary schools, selected for their proximity and high pupil premium. These programmes ignite curiosity and build confidence in key subjects before secondary school.
SCEC Creative During the Lent term, 24 pupils explore art and design in our specialist studios. Guided by four expert teachers, they experiment with printmaking, clay sculpture, and digital art. From creating collagraph prints to designing coral reef tiles highlighting climate change, they engage in meaningful artistic expression. The Mac suite introduces them to Photoshop, where they transform abstract self-portraits into digital artwork. This immersive experience fosters creativity, technical skills, and a passion for artistic discovery.
Royal Institution Mathematics Masterclasses In collaboration with The Royal Institution, our Mathematics Masterclasses inspire 60 Year 9 pupils from 10 local schools through six Saturday sessions. Exploring topics beyond the curriculum, students tackle engaging challenges, from mathematical origami – linked to product design and space technology – to the Josephus problem, which introduces binary and hexadecimal coding. With guidance from Dulwich College staff, external experts, and volunteer mentors from Years 12 and 13, pupils experience the joy of problem-solving, strategic thinking, and mathematical discovery in a dynamic and supportive environment.
SCEC Science Over nine Saturdays in the Michaelmas term, 56 children engage in exciting, hands-on science sessions in our state-of-the-art laboratories. Led by specialist teachers and supported by mentors from the College and Sydenham High, pupils conduct GCSE-level practicals, from flame tests in Chemistry to heart dissection in Biology and building rockets in Physics. Children develop confidence in experimentation, learn to draw conclusions from observations, and leave inspired by the possibilities of science.
