Why the Feather?

W I L S O N

The Native Barre feather chose me. After starting my classes at the Middleburg Community Center in 2010, two years went by without the classes having a proper name. One night, over dinner, my husband said “Bridget, you have to name this thing!” “What should I call it, I said”? Sitting there for a moment, he said, how about “NATIVE BARRE”? He went on to say that it would be a good name as I am part Cherokee Indian and that the classes grew organically out of a desire that I had to get in shape. Soon after, my husband and I were playing golf together, as we pulled to a stop on the golf course, I looked down and found this fantastically large black and white feather. It was perfection! After I got home, I started researching what type of feather it was. I came to find that it was a turkey feather. I had never seen one so large and I loved the contemporary lines of it. I found out that, it in fact, was a favorite feather of the Cherokee Indians. They believed that it was a symbol of protection and a sense of balance between the physical an spiritual world - it was also a sign of hope. I took this as a sign and decided that the name Native Barre and the turkey feather, as a logo, would be a perfect match for my program. I chose the style of the Native Barre feather because I wanted a more contemporary symbol of balance between the physical and spiritual with its center shaft representing the skeleton in our bodies. The Cherokee Indians believed that the center shaft of a turkey feather represented a connection in which a prayer could be sent through to the heavens and sent back from the heavens to the person, with a blessing inside. I have designed my class to use this mind body connection to sculpt, stretch and connect our mind and bodies. As the feather acts and represents as a channel from our minds to something greater, in its simplicity, so does the Native Barre feather. For me, it is the process of tapping into ourselves and designing the person and body that you want to have or be. Whether it means ‘a sculpted goddess’ or creating a happier place within, the feather is a reminder that we have so much more power than we think. It is a cosmic hello and reminder that when you spend the time on yourself, you will experience one magical moment after another. Giving you the power to feel comfortable and strong in your skin. Native Barre Studios is something more than an exercise program. It is a place of community, strength and attention to becoming the best person you can be. #GoNative

NATIVE BARRE

The Native Barre Method is a set of exercises that works every muscle group in the body. A 75 minute class includes a series of isometric, lateral and compound movements using a ballet bar, light weights and a ball. Deep lengthening stretches are incorporated throughout the class to create a long, lean, sculpted body that is not only aesthetically pleasing but strong and powerful. The Native Barre Method is designed to be gentle on the joints, making it appealing to all ages and levels of ability. Highly skilled instructors are trained to provide modifications for every situation, creating a safe environment for clients to reach individual goals in a group setting.   The Native Barre Method is set to an innovative and modern playlist of music that inspires and motivates each individual throughout the exercise. While there is an intentional method in place, you will never take the same class twice.

THIS CLASS IS FOR EVERYONE! .

"You are entirely up to you."

NATIVE STRETCH

Native Stretch is a 75 minute Yin Yoga based stretching class. It is a very relaxing, pleasant and enjoyable class to try. It is the perfect class for those who have never exercised or those who want a nice place to begin exercising again. It is also a very important class for those who are already very active. The deep and healing stretches create a perfect balance in the body.  So often we dedicate ourselves to lean muscle building and cardio based exercise while neglecting to spend time properly stretching. At Native Barre, we believe there needs to be an EQUAL amount of time spent stretching and strengthening your joints, ligaments, bones and mind. This requires that we spend time in our stretches. There isn't a quick fix approach to true flexibility! Without a strong foundation we lack the true strengh in which to build our house and in turn run the risk of having our bodies break down or become injured. This class will calm and balance your mind, it will give you a renewed sense of energy, increase mobility in your joints, give you flexibility and increase your range of motion. It will help you relieve stress, anxiety and release your tight hips and shoulders.  Come build a foundation made of steel, while relaxing and enjoying yourself in these peaceful poses.  This class is for anyone that wants to feel really good in their skin and take the first step towards a pain free life!

"I love this class! After putting it off for a whole year with every excuse in the book from health issues to “I don’t like exercise”, I decided to give it a try. Before the end of the first class I was hooked.   Starting my day with Native Barre’s great teachers and a friendly vibe from the other students has made a huge difference. With the help of a good diet I’ve lost 30 lbs, aches and pains are mostly gone and my cardiologist couldn’t believe the difference at my annual checkup.  But best of all, I feel great!"
