Welcome to Community Programs!

The Cuesta College SLO Campus will once again be bustling with activity this summer! From Chinese Brush Painting and Beginning Blues and Folk Harmonica to Loan Signing and Notary classes, we’ve got your educational and enrichment needs covered. Group swim lessons return to the pool alongside Aqua Fitness and extended lap swimming hours. College for Kids (ages 10-15) will feature 2-week classes and intensive 4 and 3-day camps where students will engage in a deep exploration of a subject. Jr. Camps (ages 5-9) will be offered weekly with morning and afternoon options available to fit your schedule. The 8th annual Summer Jazz Workshop (ages 12+) and AFA CyberCamp (ages 12-17) round out the youth programs for what’s sure to be a summer to remember.

The Cuesta College therapy pool is 3-4ft. deep and heated to 88-92 degrees F. Interest in joining the team? Level descriptions

Angelfish: Parent/guardian accompanies the child in the water and interacts with an instructor. This class is for children ages 6 months through 2 years to encourage fun and develop comfortability in the water, breath control, and safety. Class ratio is 1:10.

Electric Eels: This class concentrates on the development, refinement and perfection of the freestyle with side breathing, backstroke, and swimming endurance. Students should feel

Baby Belugas: This class is for children ages 3 to 4 years old. Belugas have little to no independent experience in the water. Learned skills in this class include independence, floating, kicking, arm Clownfish: This class is for swimmers 4 years and older (or 3+ and successful completion of Belugas). Clownfish are

comfortable in deep water. Students will be introduced to competitive swim strokes, front dives, treading water, and new safety skills. The child must have passed the level of “Dolphin” or equivalent to be in the “Electric Eel” level. Class ratio is 1:6. Flying Fish: Focuses on the

strokes, and water safety. Class ratio is 1:4.

College for Kids at San Luis Obispo Campus College for Kids (ages 10-15) Cuesta College’s College for Kids (CFK) program provides an enriching opportunity during the summer for students entering the 5th through 9th grades in Fall 2022. The varied curriculum is designed to meet the needs of students who are eager to explore subjects in a fun, hands-on, and educational environment. Join us for an in-person College for Kids program in summer 2022. Each session will feature 2-week morning classes and intensive 4 and 3-day camps in the afternoons where students will engage in a deeper exploration of a subject. CDC and SLO County guidelines for safe operations will be followed. • Students ARE NOT SUPERVISED on campus between classes • Classes are not remedial in nature. Students with special needs are encouraged to contact the Community Programs before registering for classes at 546-3132

College for Kids General Information Enrollment & Drop Off • Registration is accepted on a first-come, first-served basis via online, mail-in, and fax. • Class choices must run consecutively. Breaks between classes are not allowed.

Cancelled Classes Advance registration is recommended to avoid cancelled classes; however, in the event enrollment minimums are not met, the class may be cancelled. Registered students will be notified in advance and have the fees refunded or transferred to another class at no charge. Refund/Transfers Please take care in selecting classes to avoid refund and transfer charges. • If you cannot attend a class for which you are registered, a written request must be received in the Community Programs office at CommunityPrograms@cuesta.edu at least 7 days before the activity begins. The refund, minus a $10 processing fee per class, will be issued within 3–4 weeks. • A transfer from one class/event to another is available We are pleased to offer a scholarship program to enable financially disadvantaged students to participate in College for Kids. Eligible students must be 15 years of age or younger and a resident of San Luis Obispo County. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of student need and funding available. for a $10 transfer fee. • There is NO DIRECT SUPERVISION BETWEEN CLASSES – Cuesta College CFK Staff will monitor all in-between class times. • Please attend only the days & times for which you are registered • IMPORTANT: Parents! Staying on Campus during your child’s classes requires a parking permit – purchase early! Parent/Guardian & Student Orientation Students enrolled in the College for Kids program and their parents/guardians are encouraged to attend the virtual orientation meeting. The orientation for all sessions will be held on June 8 at 5:30pm and will be recorded for those who are unavailable to attend. A Zoom link will be sent out the week of the scheduled orientation. Confirmation of Registration Registering online: Detailed instructions are provided via our website and staff is available to help you during office hours. If you register by mail or fax, a receipt will be emailed/mailed to you. Please allow one week for delivery. Please remember when considering mail or fax registration requests, online registration is open 24/7 and is processed immediately. Register early to secure a spot in your desired classes.

Community Programs General Information Enrollment

Senior Discounts Adults 62 years and older receive a 10% discount on classes/activity automatically if a birth date is provided. Some classes/activities/events by design are not applicable for this discount (payment plans, special pricing, online courses, Public Events) and discounts cannot be combined. Parking Cuesta College Parking permits are required for vehicles parked on the North County and San Luis Obispo campuses—Monday–Saturday, 5am–10pm, whenever the District is in session. Daily parking permit machines are available in all paved lots. As a registered Community patron, you may purchase a Summer semester permit for $20 from the Community Programs Office via online, mail, phone or walk-in. The Spring semester permit is valid from June 13-July 22. Semester permits are available by pick up only at our office in 4103. Parking permits will not be mailed.
