Our favourite 3 • Hamilton Island is the most popular of the Whitsundays, featuring direct flights to its own airport, a bustling resort centre and marina, and a choice of accommodation to suit all budgets.

• Other alternatives include exclusive Hayman Island, the remote tranquillity of Daydream Island, or the mainland resort of Water’s Edge at Airlie Beach. • Whilst it’s tempting to stay put on a luxurious island retreat, perhaps set aside a few days to cruise the islands or enjoy a hands-on sailing expedition.
