The role Avison Young wishes to appoint an education business leader to establish itself as the service provider of choice to the education sector. This role will entail building our client network, our service provision and revenue. This will involve building strategic capability and co-ordinating existing AV business units to provide advantage. The role also requires winning and delivering engagements with universities for the provision of a range of strategic property services including estate strategies, decision support services, feasibility studies, business cases, financial modelling, capital plans, organisation reviews, efficiency reviews, planning, management, acquisition, development and disposal services. The precise nature of these services will to an extent depend upon the experience and subject matter expertise of the candidate. Working with the Association of University Directors of Estates (AUDE) as a Business Partner organisation, British Universities Finance Directors Group (BUFDG) and the Higher Education Design Quality Forum (HEDQF) the H&E lead will maximise AY’s presence within the sector. The appointee will be a focal point to deliver business opportunities, leveraging on their experience and reputation within the sector.
Purpose of the role:
• Support Higher & Further Education institutions solve complex estate-related challenges. • Help ensure that the sector secures value-added services from our full range of service lines. • Significantly grow revenue generated from the sector through the provision of responsive, high quality, insightful services. Your experience • 15+ years experience in sector, or a significant track record in other sectors.
• The appointee is well known, recognized and respected within the H&FE community.
• Strong Delivery Track Record.
• Extensive experience of developing strategies and business cases.
• The candidate is likely to have managed a department with internal delivery team, (preferably in an HE Institution), as well as third party contracts, large programmes and capital projects. • A wide network of external relationships with established relationships with constructors, construction related professional practices, legal firms and developers. • Comfortable with promoting and coordinating a wide range of services to the sector (delivered by AY service lines) including Post-Covid review of working practices, the repurposing of redundant office accommodation, carbon neutral strategies, condition surveys and the rationalisation of estates assets, capital programme development, commercialisation of existing assets, identifying third-party funding for capital developments, annual business plans. • Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), development agreement, FM strategies, service level statements, performance diagnostics, reviewing organisational structures, reviewing statutory compliance.
