Pinpointing A.D. 27 for the Messiah’s arrival Daniel’s prophecy provides a mathematical roadmap to the exact year Jesus began His ministry What is the specific timeframe given for the Messi - ah’s appearance? Daniel 9:25 How many years does 69 weeks represent? What year do we reach when counting from the start date? Sixty-nine prophetic weeks equal 483 literal years (69 x 7). Counting 483 years from the fall of 457 B.C. brings us to A.D. 27 Because there is no “year zero,” one year must be added to the total to arrive at the correct date when crossing from B.C. to A.D. Jesus Christ was bap- tized and “began His ministry” precisely on schedule in the fall of A.D. 27 at about the age of 30 years old (Luke 3:23). Subsequently this is yet another proof that Christ was not born in the early fall of 4 B.C. The “midst of the week”? The Messiah’s mission involved being sacrificed for the sake of others. What was prophesied to happen to the Messiah? Daniel 9:26-27; Isaiah 53:8 Several prophecies describe that Jesus Christ would come to the earth and was foretold to be “cut off” from amongst the living. How long did Jesus’ ministry last? Can we know which day of the literal week His ministry ended? Matthew 12:40; Hebrews 10:12 Christ preached the Gospel for three and one-half years (from autumn A.D. 27 to spring A.D. 31) before He died for mankind’s sins. He died in the “middle of a literal week on a Wednesday.” According to the sacred calendar, Passover day in 31 AD occurred on Wednes- day (Tuesday at Sunset-Wednesday at sunset). Fulfill - ing the only sign He ever gave—the sign of Jonah—Je- sus was resurrected “three days and three nights later” (Matthew 12:40) near sunset on the weekly Sabbath. By offering “one sacrifice for sins for ever” (Hebrews 10:12), He made animal sacrifices obsolete.
The remainder of the prophecy be fulfilled The 70th week was not entirely finished at the crucifix - ion—a portion remains for the future. Since Jesus died in the “midst” (middle) of the 70th week, there remains three and one-half years of Christ’s ministry to be ful- filled as a future prophecy. What is the nature of the New Covenant He will es- tablish and when will it be established? Hebrews 8:6-10; Ezekiel 20:35-38; 43-44; Rev. 2:26- 27; 5:10 When Christ returns, He will rule over all the nations starting with the Nation of Israel. Christ will “confirm the covenant” He made with Abraham (see Genesis 17:4-8; 22:16-18) and His spiritual seed who will in- herit the world and eternal life ( see Romans 4:13; Ga- latians 3:9). At Christ’s return He will make the New Covenant with His people Israel. For three three and one half years, Christ will complete His ministry to Israel by teaching them His ways and writing His laws upon their hearts and minds. For the final 3.5 years of the “70th week”, Israel will come to “loathe themselves for their evil deeds” and finally “come to know God. “ Truly, Jesus is the Christ beyond the faintest shadow of a doubt! Bible prophecy proves this as fact—He arrived right on time and did exactly what He was prophesied to do— and will soon return to complete the final por - tion of this amazing prophecy.
