FOCUS ON

The Watermark at Vistawilla by Emma Dixon

F or three decades, Watermark Retirement Communities have challenged the status quo when it comes to senior living options. And The Watermark at Vistawilla in Winter Springs is no exception to that out-of-the-box thinking. This thriving, vibrant community offers assisted living and memory care that differs from the norm. At the heart of Watermark’s operating principle, Celebrate Often, lies the belief that life is meant to be lived joyfully. At The Watermark at Vistawilla, everything revolves around the residents and their life stories, passions, and pursuits. The community is a warm, welcoming place where individuals are accepted, celebrated, and empowered to live life as they choose. One example of Watermark’s inclusive environment is that Rosh Hashanah, Sukkot, and all other major Jewish holidays are observed within the community, along with monthly Shabbat services.

Watermark offers all its residents opportunities to flourish as individuals and to connect with others. A diverse calendar of Watermark University classes, events, and outings offers something for everyone – from flower arranging to yoga to language classes, to name just a few of the many inspiring choices. Besides hands-on classes, The Watermark at Vistawilla offers exciting experiences such as EngageVR, a virtual reality program that enables residents to swim with dolphins, explore the Grand Canyon, and even experience the Apollo 13 moon landing – without ever leaving the comforts of their community. In addition, Watermark’s forward- thinking 360Well program promotes a holistic approach to living that’s rooted in four interconnected circles of wellness: mind, body, spirit, and community. With the help of a 360Well coordinator, residents can create a safe, individualized program geared toward their personal wellness goals.

Residents are always cared for in a nurturing environment that not only meets their daily needs but also enables them to continue growing as individuals. That combination is what makes Watermark stand out, says David Schupack, executive director of The Watermark at Vistawilla. “We are different from other communities,” says David, “as we support and help our residents thrive through signature programs like our Watermark University, where classes are taught by staff and residents; our innovative VR [virtual reality] experiences; and our 360Well program, nourishing mind, body, and spirit.” At Watermark at Vistawilla, residents and staff celebrate major Jewish holidays and Shabbat with volunteers from Jewish Pavilion Senior Services.
