Dear Cattlemen and Cattlewomen ,

Welcome to the 54th Annual Angus Bull Production Sale. In 1972, Martin Jorgensen, Jr. and his brother Don brought commercial cattlemen the first set of Angus bulls with the Ideal prefix. Those men were the second generation on the land here in Ideal, and today, the fifth generation is helping bring the best Angus genetics to you. Much has changed in the world since 1972, and the Jorgensen family has always strived to embrace innovative technologies and remain on the leading edge of seedstock production. From the fight for open AI, to the beginning of Martin and Greg hand-feeding bulls to evaluate feed efficiency, to the use of the Ideal Beef Evaluation, 70 Years of performance testing and stringent selection criteria have continued to drive our cow herd forward. One thing that has remained the same is that breeding programs are still built on the backs of strong cow herds, and cow herds are improved by continuously selecting for traits that are economically important to commercial cattlemen over multiple generations. The MotherLode™ has become a major cornerstone of the Jorgensen breeding program. We use sires that are proven to produce great daughters, and we use them on our cow herd through both AI and our Embryo Transfer program with the goal of continuing to enhance the predictability and productivity of our cow herd. This helps us create bulls that are prepotent and able to sire uniform calf crops for you. We are excited for you to visit the ranch and evaluate our sire groups from the Rito, Emulation, Emulous, Eldorado, Traveler, and Wye sire lines. Many of the most recognized names in this program are represented, along with some rising stars who are beginning to make their mark. The bulls in this offering have been developed with longevity in mind; we use a high-roughage ration that allows the bulls to develop with structural and reproductive soundness for years of productive life.

If you can’t make it to Ideal, SD for the sale, please see our “We’ll Bring The Sale To You” information on Page 4 of the catalog.

In-Person: We enjoy getting together with friends, family, & customers, and at Jorgensen Land & Cattle—those are one in the same. There is something special about having a big crowd of folks at our Annual Production Sale; we love watching people visit, look through the bulls, eat, talk cattle & catch-up on family. We sure hope you can attend. Visit Ahead of the Sale: For decades, we have done business by phone & on a hand-shake; that won’t change! We would be happy to schedule a time for you to look through the bulls or talk you through them by phone, ahead of the sale. We can talk about what kind of bulls you want this year and we will arrange for someone to represent you at the sale, based on your instructions. It is simple and we guarantee your satisfaction. Just call us at 800-548-2855. Bid Online: If you have high-speed internet service, On-line bidding is a great way to participate—if you just can’t attend in-person. This Year, You Can Participate On-line Through DVAUCTION . Please register ahead to access DVAuction: 1. Create an Account, and then 2. Apply for Bidding at least 24-hours ahead of the sale . Unfortunately, dial-up or satellite internet generally will not keep-up and are not recommended for On-line bidding. Real-Time Phone Bidding: Though not as simple as arranging for someone to represent you ahead of time, real-time phone bidding can be an option. Our sale moves faster than many registered bull sales. The average time for a bull to be sold is less than one minute, so it works best if we talk ahead of the sale and establish a game plan for you. About this image: Prior to Ultrasound, the K-40 counter was adapted for Beef Cattle evaluation purposes. It measured Potassium-40, a naturally occurring radioactive isotope of potassium, to estimate lean body mass of live cattle. Oklahoma State conducted a research project in 1969 to evaluate the measures versus chemical analysis of one-half of the carcass of 40 bulls. The research validated the method and Martin Jorgensen adopted the technology to evaluate carcass merit of bulls in the early 1970s!

Everything starts with the cow herd. Good cow herds are the foundations of profitable cow-calf operations. The Motherlode project focuses on making more great Angus cows, making them more consistently, and creating bulls that consistently sire herds of really good performance cows. Our methods involve choosing cows that have great cows stacked throughout their pedigrees, and especially cows that have a deep history maternal ancestors with great progeny records. We mate those cows to sires that are proven for producing fertile, productive daughters that are sound in terms of structure , udder quality, and who balance mothering ability with proper disposition at calving. Over the next few pages, please look at some examples of those cows – cows who have sons in this sale, daughters with sons in this sale, and sons that sired bulls for this sale. As you look at the maternal records behind these cows, be sure to observe the depth of these pedigrees. These cows are the product of seven to fifteen generations of Jorgensen breeding and selection, dating back to cows that were bred & born in the early 1960s. The bulls in this sale are bred to be predictable and backed by a Motherlode of generations of performance. Some of these bulls are the product of 15 or more generations of Jorgensen breeding, and they are bred to sire great calf crops and daughters that will help you maintain a great cow herd.

IDEAL 7209 OF 1168 MARJORIE

Ideal 7209 is a tremendous cow; one of the best cows to ever walk the pastures of Jorgensen Land & Cattle, and that is saying a lot when you think of all of the great cows in the history of this program. She is a product of fourteen generations of Jorgensen breeding who earned Progeny ratios of 105 WW and 112 YW. She and each of her twelve maternal ancestors, back to her 10th Great Granddam who was born in 1965, have earned Progeny YW ratios of 102 or higher—that represents a 60 year history of consistent superiority. In addition to these laurels, her pedigree is stacked with other great maternal ancestors; she traces to four times to the Feed Efficiency matriarch—Ideal 4465; nine times to the tremendous EE 4286 cow who was the mother to Ideal 4465 and to the ABS herd sire, Ideal 1418; one time to Ideal 3407, the dam of “Rito 7075” and also the paternal granddam of SAV Resource & SAV Renown; the productive Ideal 9743 donor cow; and to SAV Blackcap May 4136. In our 2023 Top Cut Bull Sale, her Top-10 selling sons averaged selling for more than $25,000 each. Today four of her sons are Herd Sires in our herd including: Ideal Accolade 2558, Ideal 3011 Rito Revolver, Ideal 2272 Emulous, and Ideal 2916 Skymere. We have retained 16 daughters in our herd, including two Motherlode donor cows.

IDEAL 3407 OF 1418 076

Backed by seven generations of Jorgensen performance breeding, Ideal 3407 was the result of a mating between the ABS sire, Ideal 1418, and the great Ideal 076 cow that served as a donor for Jorgensen herd and then the Wehrmann herd. Ideal 3407 was a powerful cow, tremendous depth of rib, a long hip, excellent udder structure, and and she balanced a Progeny 98 BW ratio with 108 WW and 109 YW ratios. Her 33 daughters in AHIR earned a combined WW ratio of 101. Her most famous and influential mating was to RR Rito 707. That mating produced Rito Idealist who sold 48% for $40,000 in 1998 to N Bar Ranch and Wehrmann Angus and a full brother, Rito 707 of Ideal 3407 7075. Unfortunately, an untimely injury cut short Idealist’s reproductive career. “Rito 7075” was used at Sinclair Cattle Company, and heavily used at Jorgensen Land & Cattle and Schaff Angus Valley. In the SAV herd, he sired the top WW, YW, and ribeye sire group of the 2010 SAV Sale. Across the Angus breed, he is known for being the sire of SAV 707 Rito 9969, SAV Resource 14441, SAV Renown 3439, SAV Registry 2831. At SAV, he sired sons who totaled over $1.2 million. In the 2025 Top Cut Bull Sale, you will find her influence in bulls by SAV Renown 3439 (her grandson), SAV Resource 1441 (her grandson), Ideal All Pro (a great grandson of SAV Resource 1441), SAV Quarterback 7933 (a grandson of Resource), Ideal 4134 (a grandson of Rito 7075), Ideal 1925 Emulous (a maternal grandson of Resource), Rito 0040 Magnum (double-bred to Rito 7075 equaling 37.5% related), and SAV Ancestry 6090 (a maternal grandson of Rito 7075).

JILT COW FAMILY

Backed by seven generations of Jorgensen performance breeding, this daughter of the Pathfinder sire, DHD Traveler 6807, and the EE 4286 cow became known as the Angus breed’s feed- efficiency matriarch. On the way to earning that title, she produced two consecutive sons that won the Jorgensen feed conversion contest. Ideal 7451, an ABS Global Pathfinder Sire, recorded a feed-efficiency ratio of 128 in 1998. In 1999, Ideal 8296 won the same contest with a 115 feed-efficiency ratio on his way to becoming a Jorgensen herd sire. Ideal 4465 earned combined Progeny ratios of 113 WW, 115 YW, and her 78 daughters in AHIR had a combined 103 WW ratio. In her lifetime, Ideal 4465 recorded more than $2.5 million in progeny sales, and placed eight sons with major A.I. companies. Her sons included: Ideal 7451of 8103 4465, Ideal 8296 of 1254 4465, Ideal 8297 of 1254 4465, Sinclair Net Present Value, Sinclair Rito Legacy 3R9, Rito Intensifier 8155 (sons in this sale), Sinclair Excellency 5X25, Sinclair 20/20, Sinclair Telecast 01S3, Sandpoint Foresight 6607, and Riverbend Grand Canyon. An influential double grandson of Ideal 4465 in the Jorgensen program is Ideal 3542 of 7451 7417. Ideal Encore of 9524 Lady traces four times to Ideal 4465 for a total of a 25% relationship to her. The dam of Ideal Encore, Ideal 3020 of SE 6X7 Lady is a maternal granddam of Ideal 4465 and Ideal 4465 is also the maternal great granddam to the sire of Ideal 3020. IDEAL 3020 OF SE 6X7 LADY

Ideal 3020 has had a tremendous influence on our herd!!! It didn’t take us long to realize that she was a special cow. She worked her heart out with her first calf, Ideal Encore; together, they earned him a 205d Adj WW of 813 lbs. (123 ratio) , and he just kept getting better after that. Ideal 3020 is a direct granddaughter of the famous Ideal 4465 cow, but Ideal 4465 is also the great granddam of her sire, meaning that Ideal 4465 represents 31.25% of Ideal 3020’s genetics. Of course, Ideal 3020 went on to earn Motherlode donor status, and this year we will have 53 of her daughters in our herd, including three of her daughters serving as Motherlode donors. Data has a story to tell. Now it has a voice. We incorporate AgBoost visualizations into each lot because, a picture can be quicker to interpret than a spreadsheet of numbers.

Using GEPDs and percentile rankings from the Ideal Beef Evaluation (IBE), the AgBoost score displays each lot’s individual trait ranking for all the traits we currently measure in the IBE: BW: Birth Weight GEPD

SC: Scrotal Circumference GEPD MK: Milk GEPD FERT: Cow Fertility GEPD IMF: Intramuscular Fat GEPD REA: Ribeye Area GEPD RIB: Rib Fat GEPD TEND: Tenderness MVP

WW: Weaning Weight GEPD YW: Yearling Weight GEPD ADG: Average Daily Gain GEPD DMI: Dry Matter Intake FCR: Feed Conversion Rate GEPD DOC: Docility GEPD

HOW TO INTERPRET THE AGBOOST VISUALIZATION

TRAIT WIDTH (BLACK LINE): The width of each trait on the chart is an indicator of that trait’s heritability. The wider the portion, the more heritable a trait is. Traits are ordered in clockwise formation from most to least heritable. TRAIT HEIGHT (BLUE LINE): The higher a trait reaches from the

center, the better that traits score is. Close to the center is closer to 0, close to the outside edge is close to 10. All traits are on a 0-10 scale, 10 being the best. The large score in the center of the chart is the average of all ten trait scores on the AgBoost visualization. Learn more about AgBoost at www.ag-boost.com

Eldorado Sire Line: Eldorado 156 of Ideal was a long- spined, true performance Pathfinder Sire who left his mark on this herd and many others. Today, nearly 40 years after his birth, his progeny still hold impressive weaning and yearling weight ratios of 102 and 103, respectively. The Eldorado line developed a well-earned reputation for growth and maternal traits. Today, Ideal Encore has rightfully inherited the role of patriarch of the Eldorado Sire Line through his combination of dominant performance, fluidity of movement, length of body, great disposition, progeny performance ratios (97 BW, 101 WW, 103 YW, 105 IMF), and his ability to sire great daughters (103 daughters earned a combined 102 Weaning ratio). Genetic Contributions: Length of Body, Growth, Outstanding Females.

Traveler Sire Line: QAS Traveler 23-4 is the best-known son of Band 234 of Ideal 3163 (“Band 105”). A 2017 Angus Foundation-funded research project revealed that “Traveler” was the most influential sire in the Angus breed, as measured by either Marginal or Co-ancestry Contribution. His genetics make up about 10% of Angus animals born today. (Band 105 accounts for 6.3% by Coancestry Contribution.) QAS Traveler 23-4 was the first direct son of Band 105 to have a major impact on the Angus breed, and his daughters in AHIR (almost 9,000) post a combined 101 WW ratio. QAS Traveler 23-4 produced numerous sons who have had a tremendous positive influence on the Jorgensen herd and the entire Angus breed. Emulation EXT A1747 3744 Excalibur Extreme 5V3 Exceptional 3V1 Ideal 7275 Emulation Sire Line: The Emulation sire line owes its origin to Murray Corbin (OK), famous for the development of the Emulous cattle. Murray formed the line by mating a linebred Emulous cow to F C R Elation Lad 652 and producing Emulation 31 (Emulous - Elation). Emulation 31 earned the highest Weaning Weight and highest Yearling Weight of his calf crop, and went on to become famous for his daughters. Unfortunately, Emulation 31 and many of his sons, daughters, and granddaughters became famous for bad dispositions. Bad dispositioned cows and bulls are just something that we no longer need to tolerate. Jorgensen Land & Cattle evaluated and very selectively hand-picked some Emulation-line sires who retain the best traits of the Emulation line and still exhibit the disposition, fertility, and mothering ability that we want in our cattle. We will continue to incorporate the best attributes of the Emulation line while selecting for the excellent disposition for which our cattle are known. Skylandmere Turk: (pictured at right) Qualified as a Certified Meat Sire. His dam was a full sister to Skylandmere 2058

Emulation Sire Line: Skylandmere 2058 was bred in the Percy Powers herd (TX) and his sire was linebred to Eileenmere 85. The Eileenmere line as noted for great females. “Sky” as he was known in the ABS catalog, was only the seventh bull to qualify as a Certified Meat Sire through Performance Registry Int’l. “He was heavily muscled and as long as a freight train,” recalled Richard McClung . (You can hear Richard discussing him on his 2022 “Brands and Barbed Wire” podcast episode.) “Sky” became an early member of the ABS Beef A.I. sire program, and Martin Jorgensen bought an interest in him in 1963. Martin was committed to improving his herd and bred every cow he owned to him for two straight years. As a result, Skylandmere 2058 built a strong set of productive cows for the Jorgensen family. According to Dr. Bob de Baca, Skylandmere’s calves in the early, formal progeny tests were 54 lbs. heavier at weaning and gained 46 more lbs. in the feedlot — compared to the progeny of the other 90 bulls in the test. In an official AAA carcass test (1968), his 12 steers posted an average 13.33 sq. in. of Ribeye, graded what would be CAB (today), had 62.2% dressing percentage & averaged 0.48” of fat at the 12th rib, and did that at 16.5 months of age. In AHIR, today, his daughters post a combined Weaning Weight ratio of 101. We have been impressed by Ideal 2916 Skymere of 2058. Phenotypically, he is extremely masculine, long-made, clean fronted, a strong top-line, plenty of forerib shelf, and a deep hindquarter. His first calf crop at Jorgensen Land & Cattle have been unassisted and we are going to use him heavily again this year. Genetic Contributions: Fertility, Length, Productive Daughters, Muscle, and Carcass Quality.

He was the top- gaining bull at the 1968 PIC Bull Test (ratio 129), and his first progeny group of 27 steers recorded an average gain ratio of 111 while grading Choice (CAB grade, today). Fifty years of sons and daughters have compiled weaning weight & yearling weight ratios of 105, and his 453 daughters earned a combined 102 WW ratio. Today, Rito 0040 Magnum of Ideal is rightful head of the Rito Sire Line. He traces 350 times to Rito 707, yet has an Inbreeding Coefficient of only 13.43% per AHIR.
