Sandbridge Beach

ALL THE FUN OF THE OCEANFRONT Just about everything happens beachfront at the Oceanfront. This is where you can walk or cycle on the three-mile long boardwalk; catch evening entertainment on no fewer than four stages; play for hours at accessible Grommet Island Park or just hang and watch the surf dudes being impressive. It’s also one of the best places to eat in Virginia Beach, especially if you’re in the mood for fresh caught seafood. And then, there’s the huge and sandy beach itself, around which everything revolves from water sports to colourful year-round family festivals. CHILL IN CHESAPEAKE The calm waters of Chesapeake Bay make it one of the districts locals love best. Known simply as, Chic’s Beach, it has a friendly vibe and a great sense of community, whether you’re playing volleyball by the bay or sharing an awesome sunset over Chesapeake Bridge with your kids. It’s also the place to get out on the water, go sailing, fishing or paddleboarding. And even the restaurants here have an aquatic twist, as many of them sit overwater, and it’s not unusual to spot dolphins as you eat: most exciting dinner guests ever! YOUR PLACE ON THE SAND If your heart is set on waking up to the ocean every morning, head for Sandbridge: one of the best areas in Virginia Beach to rent a beachfront holiday home. Like Chesapeake, it’s also very laid-back and family-friendly, so take your kids crab hunting by torchlight or let them cycle along the sand or head out to False Cape State Park and introduce them to exploring at its wildest. OUTDOOR ADVENTURES ALL OVER Virginia Beach is regularly named one of the healthiest places in the US, which might have something to do with its array of endorphin-inducing adventures. You’ll find water sports practically anywhere there’s water. Hiking and biking happen all over too - you can even hire fat tyre bikes for the beach. And if sleeping under the stars is your thing, you’ll love the great camping-out tradition that comes as naturally to Virginia Beach as summer sun, seafood and days by the sea. FEEL THE LOCAL VIBES But it’s not just beach districts that are amazing here, so make exploring beyond the coast part of your holiday too. Countryside Pungo will amaze kids with its cute customs and fruit picking fun. Inland is the off-coast area for serious shopping, farmer’s markets, and local craft breweries. And if you really want to meet the locals, hit the creative ViBe District for artist’s studios at the Virginia Beach Art Center, Virginia MOCA exhibitions, and the teen-heaven, VB Flea.
