created by sculptor Jason de Caires Taylor. Recognised as one of National Geographic’s 25 Wonders of the World, it left us awed. Also, on the return trip, we loved soaking in the views of St. George’s harbour from the water. Mount Cinnamon is a special place, and everyone seems to know it. We didn’t see a sad face all holiday, including my teenager’s. He had discovered his best island self, relishing the freedom and soaking in the entire experience. Single-parent holidays often come with their share of disagreements, but this one felt unusually harmonious. So I’m sending heartfelt thanks to Mount Cinnamon: a feast for the senses, and the perfect family trip.
produce grown in the gardens and how to prepare it the Grenadian way, with no waste!
Breakfast gives you the choice of an à la carte menu and a perfectly sized buffet. The personal touch shone through in the little handwritten signs for the baked goods, and while it might sound sentimental, you could really feel the love and care in those details. The Beach Cabana is a great hangout and lunch spot, attracting a glamorous yet laidback crowd, and also hosting weekly barbecues with marshmallow-roasting bonfires and live music, so much fun. Next stop was Annandale Waterfalls, for a rainforest walk and a dip in the falls themselves: blissfully cooling. Then, just around the corner, Chris took us to the wonderful Allan Spice Shop & Garden, where we learned how cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla are grown. And finally, the House of Chocolate, a museum in St George’s, treated us to a demonstration of bean-to-bar processes, as well as a history lesson on cocoa farming. The museum has artefacts dating back to the Mayans, although we particularly loved seeing vintage photos of local cocoa farmers. Another highlight was a snorkel trip to the Underwater Sculpture Park at Molinere Bay with Dive Grenada. Dylan had never snorkelled before and was wary, but he quickly embraced the experience under the instructor’s guidance and, even better, seemed to enjoy it. The park is a mesmerising collection of stone sculptures resting on the seabed, and the first underwater garden
