Apprenticeship Prospectus

“I started my journey with GAP as an Apprentice Hire & Sales Coordinator in 2001, and over the years I’ve been fortunate to grow and develop within the business. The support, training, and opportunities have helped me progress from an apprentice to my current role as Head of Survey & Safety – North, overseeing Survey operations across the North of the UK. My journey is a testament to the career pathways available through apprenticeships, and I’d encourage anyone looking to build a rewarding career to consider this route.” Craig Young Head of Survey & Safety – North

Real Stories from GAP Apprentices

In 2025, two team members were recognised at the CPA Stars of the Future Awards for excellence in the hire industry. They share their journeys of growth and success.

My apprenticeship has gone really well. I’ve gained such a wide range of knowledge, learning how to perform inspections and servicing, carrying out breakdowns and servicing, and doing repairs on different equipment and other work around the depot. The college side is wonderful too. It’s great being able to focus on college, then come back to work and put what I’ve learnt into practice. Winning at the Construction Plant-hire Association (CPA) Awards was the best moment by far, it’s such a confidence boost to see that other people recognise my commitment.” Amber Young Apprentice Plant Mechanic, Oxford

Your growth doesn’t stop at your apprenticeship. Support and Development • Mentorship: Guidance from experienced colleagues

• The GAP Academy: In-house training hub covering technical skills, safety and leadership • Progression Opportunities: All our apprentices move into permanent roles and have the opportunity to advance within the company

“I found my apprenticeship at GAP very enjoyable. Apprenticeships are a brilliant way to start a career, gaining valuable workplace experience while also having the opportunity to learn. I felt extremely proud to win at the CPA Awards. Having completed the apprenticeship myself, then using the tools I was given to guide others and be recognised for this, made me very happy. It makes me proud to see how well the apprentices are doing and how much their confidence has grown. Since completing my apprenticeship, I’ve been promoted to General Manager of our Plymouth Depot, showing just how many opportunities an apprenticeship can open up.” Oliver Vickery

“Our Learning & Development Team work very closely with all our apprentices throughout their qualification journey. We are delighted with the number of apprentices who have gained their qualification and are now working as part of the GAP team. We are invested in our early careers talent from day one, so naturally we feel a real sense of pride when they qualify and progress their careers with us.” Carly Scoular Learning & Development Manager
