Nursery Round - up Nursery News From Mrs Donna Kershaw - Highgrove Nursery Manager This week's weather has been perfect for supporting our winter theme in the Puddleducks room. The children have been investigating the ice each morning in the garden. The short flurry of snow caused huge excitement! The children have also been looking at hibernation, discussing where animals live and where they might snuggle up to hide and sleep. This week across the Nursery we have also started our cooking sessions in the Tiggywinkles and Puddleducks rooms. Puddelducks enjoyed making shortbread on Monday and then Tiggywinkles enjoyed making fruit kebabs. Cottontails have had fun in the role play area this week and Tiggywinkles have had some lovely yoga sessions based on their focus book ‘ We ’ re Going on a Bear Hunt ’.

Nursery School News From Miss Lizzie Hayes - Head of Nursery School

The Nursery School children have been making the most of the seasonal weather this week and the activities have taken on a bit of a watery theme! The icy weather has enabled the children to explore the properties of ice, both outside in the garden, and inside using frozen objects in the water tray. There was great excitement when it began to flurry with snow one morning, however as it did not settle, the children decided to make their own snow by cutting up paper and sprinkling across the home corner.

Further water activities continued with a floating and sinking science experiment where the children were encouraged to test a variety of objects to see what would happen through careful questioning and critical thinking skills. The children then recorded on paper the results of their experiment using their developing pencil and scissor skills. This week's kitchen/garden club also featured a watery experiment using celery and food colouring to see what might happen when celery is left to drink a variety of different coloured liquids. The children will be carefully monitoring this experiment over the next few days to see what might happen.
