Prep School Year 6 - Art

Exam Congratulations Congratulations to Alex in Year 4 for completing his ABRSM initial piano exam which he took at the very end of last term!

Year 6 have been studying colour and have researched Alma Thomas, the first African American woman to gain an Arts degree. At the time she also stood out for her use of colour and was criticised for her non - political works of art, when all of the other African American artists were portraying their inequality and suffering. Our students have used a lot of colour and have painted as well as creating their own mosaics. They then painted stones to lay around the tree to demonstrate our own links to the theme of ‘ Democracy ’ and also the positivity that we have!

Year 5 - Land Art Project Miss Spall ’ s Year 5 groups have been studying the aerial views of rivers and streams and have looked at Richard Long, the famous land artist. They have created silver leaves from ceramic and have inscribed their patterns into them, creating beautiful delicate pieces. We have hung them in a tree so through the winter, when the tree is bare, the leaves will shimmer and catch the light. When the leaves grow again, they will glint between the green.

Year 5 - Slime

The Year 5 children have been making slime as part of their ‘ Changing State ’ science topic. A lot of fun was had by all! The pupils were successful with their creations and were able to confidently discuss aspects of the science behind why slime behaves in the way that it does.
