Congratulations to Ruel Brathwaite (03-05) in his role as Head Coach of Cyprus Men’s Cricket for securing their first ever bi- lateral series win in the history of cricket on the island, defeating Croatia 4-0, away from home. This has propelled Cyprus from 81st in the International T20 rankings to 73rd.
The Old Alleynian Golf Society played a match against the JAGS Old Girls at Royal Ashdown Forest Golf Club in a historic first. There was some debate whether a match had ever been played before between the two schools, and no-one could recall such an event. This will hopefully now be an annual event.
Despite a rather inclement day a very enjoyable time was had. The rain cut short the golf but left the group with more time to enjoy a relaxed lunch and reminisce about past times. The College played its annual Badminton fixture against the OAs. Over twenty (a record) OAs returned for what proved to be highly competitive competition, with the alumni sealing victory by the closest of margins. In September Sir Peter Riddell, President of the Old Alleynian Association, awarded the First XV with their playing jerseys before their first home match of the season against Harrow.
In rugby, well done to Zach Carr (11-22) who made his first Gallagher Premiership start for Quins recently as they faced Newcastle Red Bulls.
Reuben Gokah (16-25) signed for Everton Football Club. Reuben has been at the College since DUCKS and always been a tremendous role model combining his sporting talent with exceptional commitment to his studies. Reuben enjoyed national cup success winning the ISFA Cup twice at both U13 and U15 as well as playing for the College's 1st XI last year. He has already added more silverware to his collection, winning the U17 Geneva Cup with his new team as well as being selected for the England U17 squad in 2025.
Seven OAs took to the rolling parkland of Wimbledon Common in December for the annual Thames Hare and Hounds Alumni Race. The threatened heavy showers failed to materialise, and the conditions underfoot allowed for good times to be posted all round. Stephen Georgiadis (74-81) was the first across the line for the OAs, leading home what we hope will be a winning team in the over 60 competition. At the other end of the age range, it was good to welcome first time racers Archie Jacob (11-18) and Jack McHaffie (11-18).
