Global University Programme Pupils wishing to apply to university outside of the UK instead of or as well as applying to UK universities will be invited to join the Global University Programme early in the Michaelmas Term of lower sixth. Applying to a suite of global university options is increasingly popular but can be complex to manage so additional support is required. This programme gives those exploring an application outside of the UK time to understand their options, get to grips with key deadlines, hear from experienced advisors, explore required admissions testing and be as prepared as possible to make excellent applications. As well as group sessions and guest speakers, pupils will benefit from one-to-one guidance.

Our experience suggests that candidates suitable for an application to Oxford or Cambridge typically have the following profile: • a GCSE profile of mainly 8–9 grades • a combination of subjects that prepares pupils for the rigorous academic nature of the university courses (ie academic, rather than practical subjects) • A-level predictions of A* in most or all subjects • four science and maths A-levels if applying for any science or maths course (including further maths) • three A-levels plus an EPQ for arts and humanities courses • long-term evidence of real ability, genuine initiative, intellectual curiosity and a passion for independent reading and research in their chosen subject such as essay and science competitions
