What Are NK Cells?
Natural Killer cells, or NK cells, are specialized immune cells that serve as part of the body’s first line of defense. Their role is to patrol the body, identify abnormal or compromised cells, and support the elimination of cells affected by viral infections, precancerous changes, cancerous changes, and cellular aging. Unlike some immune cells that require prior exposure to a specific threat, NK cells are part of the innate immune system. They are designed to respond quickly, helping the body maintain immune balance, cellular surveillance, and long-term resilience. As we age, NK cell activity may decline, which can affect immune performance, inflammation regulation, and the body’s ability to clear dysfunctional or senescent cells. Supporting NK cell function is therefore an important part of a broader longevity and regenerative medicine strategy.
