A short introduction to GABRIELA LOPEZ PORTILLO
Most individuals appreciate the significance of hair in very different ways. It may either symbolize a new phase in life or serve as an inspiration to others. It may also represent a form of self expression, creativity, and above all, a way to boost self confidence.
As written by Karen Bachmann in an essay for the book “Death : A Graveside Companion” , Hair Art has its origins in the 17 th and 18 th century when high infant mortality showed that “Death was everywhere”. Consequently , it was common to save hair for use in jewelry or other sorts of commemorative crafts i.e. wreaths. In Britain during the Victorian era, saving hair became almost an obsession. Regardless, I was most surprised with the use of hair by Gabriela Lopez Portillo. She is an artist who we may really call her a “Master” because of her ability to amaze the viewer with avant -garde art that leads the public to an universe of reflection in the same way as a science fiction reader would discover a new world full of surprises within a psychological study of reflections and almost encrypted messages.
It will be better to leave the viewer to continue being surprised when finding a new Galaxy in a sky where each work could be a star.
