Celebrating the Life of Vera Fair-Trotter: A Candlelight Service of Love and Legacy By Tom Williams

She also led the Coahoma County High School cheerleading squad, instilling teamwork, discipline, and a sense of pride in her team. In a moving tribute, the cheerleaders lit candles in her memory, symbolizing the light and inspiration she brought to their lives. The flickering candles served as a reminder of the joy, passion, and dedication that defined her character. Beyond her roles at school, Mrs. Trotter was a devoted wife and mother who cared deeply for her family. Her influence extended into the community, where she worked tirelessly to make a positive difference in the lives of others. The loss of Mrs. Vera Fair-Trotter is deeply felt, but her legacy of love, strength, and commitment will forever be remembered. Our prayers are with her family and the Coahoma County High School community as they navigate this difficult time. Though she is no longer with us, Mrs. Trotter’s spirit will continue
to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Institute for the Advancement of Minority Health supports the unhoused By The Institute for the Advancement of Minority Health
Jackson, MS (November 18, 2024) – The Institute for the Advancement of Minority Health transformed Pittman Park into a beacon of hope during an outreach project for the unhoused. From 10 a.m.- 4 p.m., Saturday, November 15, 2024, the Institute partnered with St. Paul COGIC, University of MS Medical Center, and Stewpot Community Services to serve 313 adults and children.

This collaborative effort aimed to provide essential items to unhoused residents as winter approaches. Institute staff and volunteers from all three organizations worked in tandem to distribute food, beverages, clothing, and hygiene products to meet immediate needs and offer comfort during the colder months. This outreach effort implements the Institute for the Advancement of Minority Health’s mission to support underserved communities while promoting health and wellness. In addition to the work at Pittman Park, the Institute serves residents at Billy Brumfield Men’s Shelter monthly. These initiatives, which fulfill the Institute for the Advancement of Minority Health’s mission to uplift underserved communities by promoting health and wellness, are implemented via the Institute’s Men’s Health Program.
