Overview: The Wellesley Public Schools (WPS) exist to provide a high quality, comprehensive educational experience that supports each student’s academic, social, and emotional development and prepares them to be global citizens who are college, career, and life ready. Recent Accomplishments: • Completed the elementary building projects with the opening of Horatio H. Hunnewell Elementary School in February 2024 and the John D. Hardy Elementary School in August 2024; closed the Ernest F. Upham Elementary School; and implemented redistricting of the six (6) elementary schools. • The School Committee approved a new Strategic Plan (2023-2028) for the Wellesley Public Schools. • Wellesley Public Schools is utilizing a Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) framework to strengthen and support academic and social-emotional learning for all students. The district’s collective focus is on rigorous core instruction, as well as enrichment and intervention, to support all students in achieving benchmark expectations. • Bates Elementary School was named a “School of Recognition” by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education based on results from the 2024 Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS). • English Language Learner education is now provided in all elementary schools. • The district continues to focus on teacher and staff diversification efforts with a focus on retention by leveraging partnerships with community organizations and higher education. • Professional learning has expanded for all staff to support training and retention of our workforce. • Equity Facilitators lead professional learning on diversity, equity, and inclusion to provide training on educational equity in schools.
