Wellesley Public Schools: Fiscal Year 2026 Budget
The USDA, through the MA DESE, reimburses the Wellesley School Lunch program for a fraction of the total cost of all paid, free, and reduced-price meals served. Supplemented by the Massachusetts universal free meal program, the reimbursement rate (federal and state rates combined) for the National School Lunch program per meal served is:

The FY’25 General Appropriations Act (State Budget) has funded the continuation of the universal free school meals on a permanent basis for all Massachusetts children. Glossary of Terms To be consistent in the definitions of terms as they are used in Massachusetts, the definitions are provided by the Massachusetts Department of Revenue, Municipal Knowledge Base. Definitions provided by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education are noted with (MA DESE) while those provided by the U.S. Department of Education are noted with (US DOE). Appropriation An authorization granted by a town meeting, city council or other legislative body to expend money and incur obligations for specific public purposes. An appropriation is usually limited in amount and as to the time period within which it may be expended. Wellesley has a Representative Town Meeting with a 5-member Select Board form of government and an Executive Director. Assessed Valuation A value assigned to real estate or other property by a government as the basis for levying taxes. In Massachusetts, assessed valuation is based on the property's full and fair cash value as set by the Assessors. Audit An examination of a community's financial systems, procedures, and data by a certified public accountant (independent auditor), and a report on the fairness of financial statements and on local compliance with statutes and regulations.
