BIBLE

INSTITUTE OF LOS ANGELES

The Euodia Club Our state laws prohibit the teaching of the Bible in the public schools, but there is no law fo rbidding th e undermin ing of the fait h of the student s in God's Word, and the theory of evolution and other teachings contrary to the Bible are freely ta ught. Becau se of these conditions, and also because of the fact that our young people are led astray so ea rly in these days, in 1910 our fir st Bible class among High School girl s was formed by Mrs. T. C. H orton in connecti on with the old Los Angeles High School. A group of gi rl s was gath ered t ogether one afternoon each week for Bible study. Quickly following this other classes were fo rmed, until we now have twenty of th ese weekly Bibl e classes in connec ti on with the various Intermediate and High Schools of the city and outlying towns. Some of the High Schoo l boys are now clamori ng fo r Bible teaching, and two of our new classes a re composed of splendid Chr istian boys, eage r for a bette r know ledge of the Word of God. The organization of these classes as a whole is known as "The Euodia Club. " The meaning of the word Euodia is "fragrance," the motto being "Be fragrant for Christ." In the past few years we have studied the Books of Genesis, J ohn and Acts, taking a yea r to each. One yea r wa s devoted to the great fundamental truths of the Bible, and one yea r to di s pen sationa l truths. A number of our girl s are taking, or ha ve taken , the Bibl e Institute course, and many a re in active se rvi ce for the Lord. A t least one gir l is on the fore ign fie ld, and others a re planning to go. Our three-fold a im : T o teach the Word; to save unsaved girl s; to lead saved girl s into lives of service.
