I For private lessons in Piano, Organ and Voice the stud_ents are referred to the lnsti­ tute's list of accredited private teachers. (Rates for pnvate lessons range from $1.50 to $3.00 a lesson.) Note: Requirements for students enrolling in the Music Course-Piano or Organ: a prerequisite to third grade, by examination.· Daily practice: one and one-half hours. For those enrolling in the Music Course-Voice: a good voice and sense of pitch. Daily practice: one-half hour voice, one hour piano. First Year voice students who can qualify may enter the Choral Training class in the first year, continuing through the third year. Such students are not required to take voice in the second term, nor conducting in the fourth and sixth terms. Those who can play all the major and minor scales and simple hymns are also exempt from piano study. GROUP X Jewish Missions Course (Nos. 1000-1099) 1011. Israel and the Dispensations. One-half hour, First Semester, First Year. The place of I srael in the Divine program of redemption is one of the subjects which is here taught and which must be clearly apprehended by those who would become under- shepherds of God's scattered flock, Israel. · 1011a. Jewish Missionary Methods. One-half hour, First Semester, First Year. (In connection wfth 1011). Variety of methods in our approach to the Jew with the gospel are presented under this subject. The study of various types and phases of direct and indirect missionary methods are here discussed. Practical methods of procedure in organizing and establi shing various centers of Jewish missionary endeavo.rs form a part of this course. 1012. Messianic Prophecy. O.ne hour a week, Second Semester, First Year. Under this subject the student is made acquainted with prophecy and its fulfilment as regards the Messiah, the nation of Israel and the land of Palestine. The student is prepa,red to meet in a convincing manner, from the original Hebrew text, the usual Jewish objections tOt the Messianic teaching of the Old Testament. 1021-22. 1031-32, Yiddish. Two hours a week throughout the Second and Third Years. Familiarity with Yiddish, which is still largely used among the Hebrews, is essential to those expecting to devote their lives in service to Israel. Hebrew. Two hours a week throughout the Three Years. (For description see 235-6 and 245-6, Group II.) 1024. Jewish History. One hour a week, Second Semester, Second Year. The course of Jewish history is here traced from 500 B. C. up to the present time together with the treatment accorded Israel by the various nations of the world. 1033. Rabbinical Theology. One hour a week, First Semester, Third Year. In this division the student is introduced to the Talmud and some of the outstanding Rabbinical writers without knowledge of which no adequate grasp on Rabbinic theology can be secured. The importance of this phase of study cannot, without distinct loss in effectiveness of service, be ignored. 1034. · Jewish Customs and Ceremonies. One hour, Second Semester, Third Year. Familiarity with Jewish Holidays, Customs, Ceremonies, and religious life, is highly essential to intelligent missionary service among the Hebrews.
