BIBLE INSTITUTE

LOS ANGELES

OF

for which there is an unu sual opportunity through the regular church activities and through the special evangeli st ic work car ri ed on by the Institute among different classes of people in thi s g reat city. Few cities off er a greater opportunity for a prac tical expe ri ence in the doing of the different kind s of work chal lenging the modern church. Many mini sters who have been in the work several year s and realize what is demanded of the pastor, express the wish that they might have had the oppo rtun ity of a yea r 's study in some Bible Institute a f ter fin ishing the regular semina ry course. Other s who have had the Bible Insti tute course befo re going to the seminary are most emphatic in their appreciati on of what the work meant to them . Finally we have in mind the mi ss ionaries who return to the homeland on furlough and vis;t th e school and we endeavor to make thi s course serve them in a very r eal way. There is no more attracti ve place in America fo r returned mi ss ionaries than Los Angeles and it is our purpose to consider their special needs more and more each yea r and to st rengthen our course along thi s line. ·with these different group s in m;ncl we try to make the work of the third yea r not only thorough from a techni cal and academical poi nt of view but also from the point of view of the deepening of the spi ritual lif e of the students and the intensi fy ing of their sense of responsibility and opportunity in the work of the church in a clay that is challeng ing the very bes t that there is in men and women, and a time that is calling for reality in lif e and work. vVe try especially to cultivate the spirit that will lead men and women to give themselves to the hard and neglected fi elds at home and abroad. The church is becoming more and more alarmed at the large number of churches throughout the rural di stricts that are pastorless, and in the third yea r work we are try ing to thoroughly prepare men who wi ll be willing to take work in difficult and neglected fi elds. In a word , the work of the third year is for the purpose of more thoroughly fitting men into the life and pract ical work of the church.
