XXV. Music The prime object of the music instruction is to equip the student thoroughly for every demand made upon the Chris tian worker in playing, singing, conducting, writing and teach ing Gospel music. It prepares for evei-y branch of regular church music activity, and the special work of music in evan gelism. Courses are offered in Voice, Piano, Organ, Violin, Theory and Notation, Sight Singing, Conducting, Harmony and Composition, Normal Training, Hymnology, Advanced Chorus and Ear Training. In all instruction a standard of technique is maintained equal to that of the best conservatories, and provision is made for work in Voice, Piano, Organ, Counterpoint and Composi tion more advanced than that outlined in the regular two years course and mentioned in the preceding paragraph. The instruction in voice, piano, organ and violin is indi vidual, and a nominal charge of $1.00 for half-hour lessons is made for voice, piano and violin, and $3.00 for pipe organ. A charge of $1.00 a month is made for daily use of practice pianos for piano and voice pupils. The rate for pipe organ lessons includes free daily o·rgan practice. To persons not enrolled as regular students the rate for private instruction is double the student rate quoted above. 1. NOTATION, THEORY AND SIGHT SINGING This sub ject gives a foundation for all other music train ing, and is pursued thoroughly. Notation I. covers the rudiments of music, a mastery of scale relation and the major keys; Notation II. continues this work and gives drill in more difficult note reading, chromatics, modulations, and the natural,
