Public Speaking and the Reading of the Scriptures In structi on in this cour se wil l cover eve rything th at is fundamenta l and essentia l in the us e o f th e vo ice in public exp ress ion in preaching and teaching, and th e public r eading of the Bible. Very specific instruction will be given in the ca re an d de,·e lopment of the vo ice, in enunciation a nd pronunciation and al so in di ct ion and sty le, both in writing and speak ing. The students will be r equired to make public addresses before the class, to be critic ized by the clas s a n·d by the in s tructors. The s tudents will also be r equired to speak in public in open air meetings, shop meetings and chu r ches, and their work will be reviewed and criti cized. They will be req uir ed to read the Bible and wi ll be shown their defects and how they can be correct ed. It is es pec iall y aimed to teach the s tudents to think on their feet and to be ready on all occas ions to express the truth in the mos t forc ibl e and telling way. 29
