The Work of the Bible Women Thi s work came into ex is tence as the r es ult of a deeply felt need to reach women in t he home. "B ible \Vomen" seemed to be the only appropriate name by which to de s ig nate those chosen and consecrated to the work of sa ,·ing so ul s by leading them to Christ, re claiming· backsliders, mee ting, warning and in st ructing those who have been mi s led by false r eligi ons, and establishing believer s through th e teaching of the \ ,Vo rel of Goel. The Bibl e \ ,\' oman a id s th e pastors by training church member s fo r more efficient se rvice a nd by reporting the backs lider s a nd the unchur checl found in her visitat ion work. The work of the Bible \Vomcn is divided into three departments : the adult classes : t he clubs for young bu sin ess 11· omen and the Bible classes for Hi g h School girls . Th e adult workers reach th e moth ers in the homes by means of nei ghbo rh ood Bible classes. This depa rtment also includ es vis itation work in the Gene ral H osp ital and oth er charitable in st itutions. and a weekly visit to the inmat es o f the County Farm. The Lyceum Club meet s in its own room in t he Bible In stitute building and the Etcri Clubs are s ister o rganizati ons, some twenty 111 number , which have been o rganized in nea rby communit ies. Because of the undermining o f the faith of High School students in th ese clay s we f ee l that an understa nding o f th e \No rd of Goel amor\g th ese young people is a crying need of our cl ay. Some s ixty o r more Bibl e classes arc held wee kly in connect ion wi th the High and Junior High Schools of o ur city and sur rounding towns. The organizati on of th ese classes as a whol e is known as the "Euodia Club." Th e meaning o f the word "Euoclia' ' is fragrance and the club mot to is "Be fragr a nt for Ch r ist." La rge number s of th e young women in th e Lyceum-Et eri 'lubs and Euoclia Clubs have rece ived Chri st as th eir Sav iour and ha,· e been trained for se r vice and are now a t work in many part s of the world. The three fold aim of the Bible \\ .omen 's work is,-fi rst. to teach the \~ ·or e!. second , to save unsaved women and g irl s, and third. to lead these saved ones into liv es oi se r vice. The Euodia Club Our state laws prohibit th e teachin g of the Bible in th e publi c schoo ls, but there is no law forbidding th e undermining of th e fait h of the student s in God's \ ,\ford, and the th eo ry of evo luti on and o th er th eo ri es contrary to the Bible are fr ee ly taught. Because of th ese conditions, and also because of the fact th a t our young peopl e are led ast ray so ea rly in these clays, Bible classes among High Schoo l girls ar e held r egu larl y in churches and pr ivate homes nea r the Intermediate and High Schools of the city and outlying town s. Ove r seventy such classes a re now being conducted each week. The orga nizati on of th ese classes as a who le is known as "Th e Euodia Club." The meaning of the word Euodia is ' 'fragran ce ," th e mo tto being "Be fragrant fo r O1r ist." 47
