THE IMPORTANCE OF DISCIPLINE Takeaways From Bruce Lee’s Methods
Martial arts have been a fascination of mine for years. The first martial arts film that piqued my interest was “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.” The movie portrayed martial arts in a very artistic style. The movie perfectly blended romance and action in a compelling story that captivated audiences across the world. I recently watched the movie “Ip Man,” which focuses on the life story of Bruce Lee’s teacher. Bruce Lee initially wanted to use martial arts for street fighting, but his mentor taught him that it should be based around traditional ideas. Lee would go on to develop a one-of-a-kind mindset before taking the world by storm. I have always idolized Lee for his high level of discipline. He and other martial artists spend hour upon hour practicing and getting into the right mindset. They try their best to remain in the present so they can focus and match their opponent’s strength. I saw firsthand the dedication and hard work it takes to become successful with martial arts since my husband practiced for over 20 years. Even though he doesn’t practice regularly anymore, his body has still retained form, and his self-discipline is impressive. Discipline is important and relevant to anything in our lives. Through my experiences as an orthodontist and business owner, I have created a high level of discipline for myself. I have found that it’s essential to strive for knowledge and also put that knowledge into practice. If you stop chasing your goals and become stagnant with your position, you will fail to grow. By creating a level of self-
discipline, you will continue to improve until you are at the top of your industry.
For business owners, your success is not solely based on self-discipline. You need to create a company culture and instill discipline as a core value. If you put discipline in place from the beginning, people will know what to expect, and you will have a happier environment. When there’s no discipline in the workplace, people will try to get away with minimal effort and enthusiasm. Discipline is not only related to work and physical activity but also to every aspect of life. Anything that you do well in life requires discipline; otherwise, there’s no real control over your future. As we enter the holiday season, it’s important to try to retain our self-discipline. Even if it’s just trying to prevent overeating or frustration from cooking. If we apply discipline to everyday activities, we will be more successful and find peace in our day- to-day lives. Bruce Lee was a truly polarizing character. He was extremely hardcore when it came to martial arts and his vision. He knew what he wanted, and his discipline was there to keep his vision in place and ensure that he never drifted. He tried
to make martial arts more inclusive, as he believed it belonged to everyone. By using the same methods and discipline that Lee used, we can all become as successful in our fields as Lee was in martial arts.

Keep Up With Dental Visits Especially During Orthodontic Treatment
If you’re undergoing or looking to begin
Dentists have special tools to clean between braces and clear any buildup that may have developed. If you aren’t brushing properly, your dentist may even suggest additional visits to ensure that your orthodontic treatment does not take longer than needed. It’s also important to visit a dentist before beginning orthodontic treatment. Gum disease affects many American adults. It’s estimated that 1 in 5 orthodontic patients are adults. If a patient has gum disease and begins orthodontic treatment, it could cause things to become worse. Gum disease can lead to bone loss around the teeth, and the movement caused by orthodontic appliances could worsen the bone loss and eventually lead to an unstable bite. Visiting a dentist prior to an orthodontist can alert you to issues you may need resolved before beginning treatment and will better help your dentist and orthodontist develop a plan to make your smile straighter. To ensure that you get the best possible treatment while wearing an orthodontic appliance, you need to continue seeing your dentist — it will prevent your orthodontic treatment from taking longer than necessary.
orthodontic treatment, it’s imperative that you continue to see your dentist every six months. Even though you’ll be sitting in the orthodontist’s chair a lot
during your treatment, visiting a dentist is essential to maintain the health of your mouth and ensure treatment progresses as planned.
As an orthodontist, it’s my job to straighten your teeth and give you a healthy and comfortable bite. If you’re not visiting your dentist regularly, you may develop cavities and gum disease, which will make orthodontic treatment more difficult. If you wear braces, it is very easy for plaque and bacteria to build up around your brackets and wires. Even the most determined brushers will have a hard time cleaning these areas. This plaque and bacteria can quickly turn into cavities and, potentially, gum disease. It doesn’t matter if you have metal braces, Invisalign, or another orthodontic appliance, visiting a dentist will improve your treatment.

Have a Low-Stress Holiday 3 TIPS FOR A MERRIER TIME
The holidays are right around the corner, and while many people can’t wait to eat turkey and swap presents, others only see stress on the horizon. Especially for those hosting parties, between decorations, big dinners, excited kids, and visiting family, it can all feel overwhelming. If celebrations are happening at your house this year, here are three tips to lessen the strain and keep up the holiday cheer. Recharge First Ensure you’re rested and recharged before the holidays by taking time to relax, getting enough sleep, and engaging in activities that make you feel good. When you’re rushing to get everything done, it can be tempting to skip self-care routines, but that will cost you in the long run. Your daily exercise and other health activities keep you balanced and ready to face challenges head-on. Get Started Early Holidays always arrive faster than we expect, so begin preparing early. If shopping for presents is a pain point, don’t wait until the last minute. Decorate earlier than you need to — or better yet, get the kids to do it for you. There’s only so much cooking you can do ahead of time, but ensuring you have all of the equipment and nonperishable ingredients you need a few weeks in advance will reduce both your workload and anxiety.
Don’t Expect Perfection The sooner you let go of the idea of a “perfect” holiday, the sooner you’ll be able to have a happy one. Face it: Something will go wrong. Whether it’s an overcooked dish, a child throwing a temper tantrum, or your uncle talking politics at the dinner table, nothing will ever go just how you planned. So, embrace the imperfections. Whether you’re celebrating this year with a group of two or 20, holidays can be a stressful time — but they don’t have to be. With these tips, your festivities may not be picture-perfect, but they will be a lot of fun.
